An excellent example of how a mech game should play.

User Rating: 8.3 | Armored Core 2: Another Age PS2
Armored Core 2: Another Age is one of the best mech games I have ever played. The constant level of challenge keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the lengthy single player story. Not to mention that the opponent mech fights can force you to completely rethink your "uber" mech design, even towards the end of the game. Controls are rather difficult to learn, and you may spend a while running into walls until you get the hang of it.

Speaking of mech design, customization is the name of this game. With a huge array of parts and options to choose from, you can build a huge array of powerful mechs. You can also tailor your mechs to the mission at hand as many of these parts have a tremendous impact on how your mech handles in different circumstances.

The single player game is excellent, having a good assortment of level types and a constantly rising level of challenge. There is also a good amount of voice acting to go along with your missions. Opponent mech AI is some of the best you will find anywhere. These fights are HARD, just bordering on frustrating. Don't play this game if you are looking for an easy ride.

The multi-player capabilities are excellent, allowing for Co-op, traditional versus, and opposing sides in a mission versus.

Graphics and sound are well designed and fit the theme of the game well.

Overall, I'd recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the genre, or just looking for a good game to play with a friend.
