Animal Crossing: An Adequate Beginning

User Rating: 6 | Animal Crossing GC

so, the first Animal Crossing game. let's go.

Concept Phase & Stuff:
yeah, this game was originally meant to be an action RPG, set in various dungeons. & it was also supposed to release on the unsuccessful Disk Drive add on to the N64, the aforementioned failure being why. then the game’s designer, Katsuya Egushi, decided the game should appeal to a wider audience, so made it a more wholesome social simulation game about a town where you live with fuzzy animals, & do your part to help society.
unrealistic, if you ask me. the game was ported to the N64 in Japan, first & foremost, known as “Dobutsu no Mori+” which translates to “Animal of Forest”

Game:
Animal Crossing ended up being released on the GameCube in 2002, & is a social simulation & sandbox game where you do jobs. what? & i must say, this game, & more to come in this series, have such a good atmosphere, with the happy music, & cute characters. & also, there’s Resetti’s theme, & i only just realised while writing this that the word Reset is in his name. STOP ELONGATED-LY LECTURING ME, YOU MISERABLE MINING MOLE! AT LEAST I WASN’T REJECTED PLAYING A PART IN PARAPPA 2, YOU PINEAPPLE PAINTING, POPPING PULL-UP PEST! anyway, the characters just speak in sped-up your set language in the game, so English for me. nooooo. the musick is happy & funky & catchy & hunky, yes, i’m in love with a Nintendo game’s soundtrack, who isn’t? now, let’s talk about the actual game. why is a sheep calling me lamb chop? so, this game is - damn Rhino! don’t call me a punk, you ninny! don’t start a fight that you can’t win! i will always win! as long as we aren’t punching, kicking, biting, slapping, scratching, or pulling faces. i can’t do that. i’m sorry, i know it seems like i’m delaying talking about the game. well, it’s… decent. it is as i summarised it. a social simulation & pseudo-sandbox game where you also work a job for Tom Nook at his brick-&-mortar shop, Nook’s Cranny. & i think it’s a cool idea to be a resident of a wholesome village doing your part by completing different jobs, & it can be fun sometimes. going to your neighbours, & to the post office, to deliver their… post. idiot. though i found the “meet everyone” task rather tedious, as at that point, you have no map, so i was just bored & confused at times. i wrote Purrl a letter. "gitface you are, yo. - Hambo" take that, Hambo. annoyingly, though, it auto-signs for me, so i can't make them fight. so, how about i continue? sounds good. this game is entry-level enjoyment for me. fun in places, but not at all my go-to for sandboxes, or my go-to for Animal Crossing. both of those go to a later entry in the series. so, you may have noticed i didn’t have much to say about the actual game, & more just stupid joke stuff, because when you really get down to it, this game doesn’t really have any real talking points, aside from starting the series, & my island being called NUNYA. so, i’d give this game a low-end 6/10.
