Not perfect but highly underrated.

Aero Fighters Assault is, simply put, the best jet sim game for the N64. Yes, I know, there weren't that many, but whatever.

The controls in Aero Fighters Assault are very well-laid out. I've never flown a jet before, but the fighters in-game handle like what you would expect jet fighters to handle like. There are two different flight control modes, novice and advanced. Novice dumbs things down a bit, making your jet easier to pilot. The advanced mode makes things trickier, but gives the pilot (you) more control, so if you master the controls you can pull off more advanced maneuvers that you would otherwise be unable to execute in novice mode.

The missions vary in difficulty, often in a somewhat wonky and frustrating matter (for example, I found level 3 far more difficult than level 5). Also, the story line is stupid... but if you want compelling, rich lore, go play an RPG. For serious. Let's put it this way: you end up fighting a UFO on the moon. Yeah.

At any rate, the control is very well done, the graphics aren't too shabby and the dogfights are a lot of fun (much more fun than the boss fights). Some of the boss fights are akward, frustrating, and repetitive, but once you have the controls down and know what to do you should be good to go. The multiplayer mode is fun, and if you want some sick dogfights, go snag a copy and grab some friends, because this is the best jet fighter sim you're going to find on the N64.
