More than just an early Zelda clone, 3D Dot Game Heroes will draw you in with it's old school charm and new school fare.

The world of Dotnia has entered a new age of 3D and trouble is brewing and it is up to you to save it. You are thrown into this world and you have your first choice to make should I spend time with the block editor so I can make my own hero or should I just pick one of the preset models. At first I tried to mess with the block editor but I found that it wasn't as user friendly as it could have been. So, after I tried that I just picked a pre made model and jumped right into the adventure. 3D Dot Game Heroes a game that is more than just an early Zelda clone. 3D Dot Game Heroes is packed full of replay value and content. The first play through took me around 36 hours and I went after about 46 percent of the trophies and did about 50 percent of the side quests. There are tons of side quests but most of them are time sensitive so if you beat the next boss the quest goes away if the quests did not go away after time it would make doing them without a walkthrough much easier. On top of all the time it takes to do the main story 3D Dot Game Heroes has two other game modes besides normal mode. The first added game mode is From mode which makes the game slightly harder the second mode I won't tell too much of because it makes you think very hard before fighting a strong foe. The last great thing about the replay is the new game plus which makes it so you can change the difficulty, start a new game, and keep most of your items and upgrades at the same time. Now 3D Dot Game Heroes is not a game that is hitch free. One of the first things you will notice is that the story is a complete copy cat and could use more originality. Now to fans of the earlier Zelda game will see this welcoming narrative. Another thing the story could have used was a bit of voice acting to some of the main characters. Now I do understand that if the game was fully voiced it would bring some of the old school charm, but if some main characters were voiced it would make others feel more attached to the main story. The part of 3D Dot Game Heroes that you be experiencing the most is the gameplay. The controls are very well thought out and it makes 3D Dot Game Heroes play great. Singing your sword in this world feels like a must and using other gadgets to help you along your quest feels timeless. One great thing about the gameplay is that you can collect different swords around Dotnia by doing side quests, building them, and buying then. Once you have a sword you can go to the black smith and he will upgrade them for you if you have enough money. The upgrades include width length and special. Each one of these upgrades makes traveling in Dotnia a bit easier. Another interesting gameplay tidbit is the difficulty of the mini games in 3D Dot Game Heroes. Yes mini games but these mini game are not just cheap things to keep you preoccupied for awhile they are very hard. There are 3 types of mini games, Blockout which is just like brick breaker but with a big twist, also there is dash circuit which is a race to beat the clock with a few bumps in the road, and the hardest of all is block defense a tower defense mini game that will have you scratching your head most of the time. Now there are several different places to play these games and each place has new maps harder gameplay and great rewards which I will not spoil. With game companies on the rise that all they do is want your money for a game that has little to no content 3D Dot Game Heroes is a must buy because of its classic charm and style and great replay value, but if you want an rpg with a more developed story and more action then this game maybe isn't the best for you. I give 3D Dot Game Heroes an 8 out of 10 because of its replayablitly , classic charm, mini game enjoyment, and great upgrade system. Things that could have made this game a 10 out of 10 would be a more user friendly hero creation system, a better story, and no time sensitive quests. If you're looking for a true modern classic video game I highly recommend 3D Dot Game Heroes.
