If you like classic adventure games, such as Zelda for the NES, then this is for you. Simple mechanics and great design.

I'm an active retro gamer. When I bought Zelda 1 when I was a kid, I fell in love with it. Having a map, multiple different tools, money system, dungeons, open worlds the list goes on. When I first heard about this game about a year ago, I knew it was for me. I find myself always going back to classics and giving them a run through, Zelda, Secret of Mana to be specific.

This game clearly pays homage to the games that paved the way for it's own creation. Boomerangs, bombs, cracked walls, powered attacks and even intentional poor english. "Life up get."

I highly recommend this for fans of classic gaming and those interested in a sit back and relax kind of adventure. What's especially great is the ability to create a character, and use him later at any time. Atlas was very aware that most people want to the play the game first, and make a character later. People love creating characters, but hate starting over just because of being eager to play. The characters visual appearance has no effect on anything, so you can really be creative with how you want your character to function. Loading times can be a little bit of an annoyance, but selecting "Install" on the main menu will give some relief screen transitions.

In response to the editor being limited, I really don't understand this comment, as the editor allows you to edit exactly how characters in the game are designed and function. 6 different poses and a 16x16x16 3d pixel canvas. I can't imagine what other functions they could have added that wouldn't have taken away from the aesthetics of the game.

My only minor complaints are the blurring effects in the distance and the foreground, it seems the only parts of the screen that aren't blurred is about 1/3 of your screen in the center. It's unnecessary and I find it distracts from the overall design. I would be happy if only the foreground was mildly blurred and leave the background intact or just some mild atmospheric perspective. The map in the top right corner has a tendency to be confusing and requires a thorough inspection to fully grasp where you need to go and the main map lacks a zoom function which elevates navigation frustration.

Overall, it's a fantastic classic adventure game and should satisfy those looking for some simple gameplay with that old school edge.
