Underrated Classic

User Rating: 8 | Zelda II: The Adventure of Link NES

Black Sheep of the franchise? I think not!

Instead of writing an actual review, I'll list the complaints given to the game:

-It's an rpg

-It's a platformer

-It's too different!

I can easily say these 3 are arguments coming from people that didn't grow up with zelda II coming out. This was the 2nd in the series. Nowadays people complain nintendo is re-using the formula too much, so some change is always interesting. And it changed in a good way! It's not as cryptic as the first game, combat is smoother, the controls feel nice and the rpg elements give the player a way to progress as they play the game. Just like any other zelda. Instead of items it's stats and spells this time around. And 3d zelda games also had their fair share of platform sections.

-Music is not catchy

Palace theme is the most iconic zelda theme in Super Smash Bros. Melee. That theme is the musical legacy of that game, as the main theme was the musical legacy of the first.

-It's unfair

There's very few cryptic moments and also few random enemy attacks that might instantly kill you. The game does a great job at letting you get used to enemies before putting them in dangerous situations.

-The story is bad

The triforce of courage, the complete triforce, an actual legend about zelda(the only game to do this so far), dark link, the palace theme, iron knuckles, and even some names like Ruto or the meme ''I am Error'' all come from this game. This game has more story and legacy than most other zelda games.

-It's too difficult

Ah yes. So before we established the difficulty isn't cheap. So this is the only argument that holds up after the rest got debunked. The difficulty.

Might I add that people loved the difficulty of dark souls? Granted, I love that game too. But I see that this game's difficulty, even though the curve spikes up at death mountain, is very fair and respectful of the players ability.

So the only reason I see people could hate on this game so much is cause they're bad at it. And to them I say, learn to play.

Now why the 8? Because

1. The difficulty curve could have been handled better.

2. Still some cryptic moments in it.

Give the game aother try with an open mind if you put it down before. You might end up liking it.
