User Rating: 8.4 | X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse SNES
X-Men Mutant Apocalypse is a very fun platformer in which you have to play every 'good guy' mutant, completing their missions before you can beat the game. The basic story line is that there are mutants that are held captive, presumably to be destroyed. They are held by the baddies, which include the Sentinal robots and more. Gameplay: 9/10 This is not your standard sidescrolling action platform game. In many games you chose one character to play throughout. But in this game, you have to complete the missions that each mutant is sent on to rescue the prisoners. You have the choice of which you want to play first, and can actually practice the missions before hand if you wish. Each mutant has a different style of play and strategy to complete the mission. The biggest perk is that you can do special moves in this game, similar to how you might in a arena fighting game. With different button combinations you can increase your attack variety making the game more interesting. Graphics: 9/10 The graphics in this game are great for an SNES game. The colors are full and the explosions and special visual effects are good. The characters are well drawn. The only down side is the repetative look of the goons that you have to kill along the way. But all side scrolling action games are like that. Sound: 7/10 The background music is good... gives you a sense of urgency. It has music of the standard fair. Fast moving and upbeat. The only annoying part of the sound is that the alarm beeping in the background (since you are breaking into the facility)... after a while you kinda want it to go away. Otherwise, the sound effects are pretty good for SNES. Reviewer's Tilt: 8/10 As a big fan of the comics, I always enjoy playing X-Men games, and this is no exception. Thumbs up from me.
