Must-have multiplayer. Huge maps, great vehicles to get around them in, and even better weapons to kill the vehicles.

I delayed getting this game because it is only multiplayer, but I am glad I finally bought it. Even if you don't have a good network connection the split screen mode is fantastic and worth it. Going 1 mano y mano with a friend, with a good selection of unique large maps, vehicles and weapons is great fun. This is the best split screen shooter there is.

Split screen:
There is a map for everyone. Desert, island, night, day, they are all huge. There are tanks, jeeps, and of course Warhawks. Each has a selection of weapons. You can choose to dogfight in the sky with rockets or machine guns or stay on the ground and try to take down an attacking Warhawk with anti-aircraft fire, an RPG, or a guided missile. There are plenty of places to hide and with two players a tank battle can be quite fun. There are so many different vehicles, weapons and maps that it is always interesting, fun and different. You can get shot out of the sky in a heavily armed futuristic jet fighter by a lonely foot soldier with shoulder mounted guided rocket hiding somewhere in a complex and large area, and then re-spawn and seek him out and obliterate him with a tank.

Mutliplayer:
The maps can hold lots of players. Entering a game at first is quite intimidating because there is so much going on. Warhawks overhead, tanks and machine gun mounted jeeps, large installed guns, and players running around with a large assortment of weapons. There are even jet packs that are very fun. As you play the game you will find that the weapons have unique advantages in different situations and the game is extremely well balanced. The maps are open and you can go anywhere in them. The best strategy for staying on the ground is to run around and find all the weapons you like to use. If you decide to use a vehicle get the wrench so you can repair it whenever it suffers damage. Get the jet-pack before getting into a Warhawk since it will allow you bail out in an emergency. You can play stealth, sniper, ambush, or just run and kill. The Warhawks are difficult at first and have a longer learning curve than I would like to see, but the key is to practice evasive maneuvers. I found that shooting down a Warhawk takes skill and luck, since you have no idea the skill level or the maneuvers of your opponent you need luck. So if you are able to evade and stay alive long enough you will occasionally shoot down opponents. You re-spawn fast and there are always plenty of Warhawks and other vehicles around so the action is non-stop.

The graphics are perfect for this type of game. This is a very large 3D open world game with ballistics and physics. There is not the fine detail you find in some games, but there is no story mode and no need to see anyone's expressions. This is kill or be killed in pure form.

This is a great game and I highly recommend it for everyone with a PS3.
