The Gist - 5 Lengthy 2013 Games To Get Stuck Into Over The Holidays
Jess helps you out with a little holiday cheer with a side of guilt to remind you of all the awesome long games from this year that you might not have gotten around to just yet. Tis the season!

X3: Terran Conflict. It's designed to take about 400 hours to complete all the major quests. Needless to say, patience is required for this game.
What, no mention of Civilization's new expansion? That has been the time suck of 2013 for me. I bought GTA 5 too, but Civ has eaten more time still.
Also, I am sorry to say that I gave a six year old a copy of the Nintendo DS version of GTA by accident. Almost a week after Xmas and his mom still isn't speaking to me! You can never start a kid down the gaming path too early. :)
Oh god... Ni No Kuni... I'm still putting hours into it... barely hit the 30 hour mark. This should be fun. Love that it has that old j-RPG style...
I'm still putting off GTA V... don't want to get lost during summer (yeah, southern hemisphere)
Pokemon X and Y... I need a goddamn 3DS for that... I'd still put 160+ hours into it!
Path of Exile already got me... but I'm still surfing through working hours and free time...
Ni No Kuni was amazing! I hope they make another one with Studio Ghibli animation.
I haven't played GTA 5, I'll have to check it out.
I love Pokemon X & Y, I hope they make Pokemon Z.
Path of Exile is so good!! Its free everyone get a steam account and go and download it!
So many to name I don't know where to begin! Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of them. MMOs aside, Fallout 3 (yes, you have my permission to flame me for coming to the Fallout series so late), Dishonored (bought it last year...) and Borderlands 2 are just a few I have yet to complete. As far as 2013 titles, I have none!
Dragon's Crown is a good one for those with many hours on their hands. Plenty of side quests to justify replaying levels, many ways to use experience points, half a dozen character classes, it's a fun game with lots to do.
Saints Row 4 is another. I swore I wouldn't do all the side stuff, but the bonus weapons like a gun that generates black holes proved too good to pass up.
I have put off playing GTA 5. I want it on PS4 or PC
Ni No Kuni was amazing!!
Pokemon X & Y are great. I cant wait for Pokemon Z
Path of Exile is so good! I hope it gets Game of the Year
dude.... that Killzone Shadowfall trailer is awful......
Had to finally say it
just finished Ni No Kuni and I loved it!
It's not 90 hours long though..... I did most of the extra stuff and took my sweet ass time(as I always do) and it took me 82 hours
minus the side quests and screwing off I could have beat the game way faster.... and personally I only think real content should be added to the time.... Not all the tedious side stuff you can do(and I liked doing it)
But I'm not going to call every RPG that has a bunch of rinse and repeat side quests a billion hours long
I have a backlog of about 15 'must-play' games to get through, but I can't seem to find the willpower at the moment... I have gamed pretty hard this year though.
So I'll probably spend the holidays staring blankly at a wall, or indulging in some 'ye olde' pastimes.
Im playing inversion, and borderlands 2 is next on the list til' xmas. But first , I really need to get a girlfriend like Jess.
I bought a bunch of games during all the autumn sales, but only managed to complete a couple of them, I haven't even finished GTA V yet. So many games, so little time :(
Last year I started Skyrim on Christmas, this year same day I will start Witcher 2 (both for its own sake and to get ready for Witcher 3). Should keep me occupied for a while.
I might finally give Skyrim a try now that the hundreds of hours I spent on Elder Scrolls 4 are finally starting to fade into Oblivion (...ha!).
Thinking of replaying The Last Remnant as well and do some Christmas activities in Guild Wars 2.
I recently got both Fallouts, Gta5, Red Dead Redemption and Far Cry 3. So not sad at all I haven't went next gen yet lol.
GTAV and Ni No Kuni are kind of a conundrum for me. I know these are great games, well designed with excellent stories.
But I'm not a big fan of driving games and the GTA gunplay and Ni No Kuni's anime cartonishness bugs me, as well as the sentimentality which is overwrought.
It's like if you don't like mushrooms but you eat a mushroom pizza that's a damn good pizza.
I'm surely going to play Ni No Kuni this winter...........and yes, those 12 hour sleep marathons......... *snores*
If I do get some solid gaming time, I'm going to be having a Resident Evil marathon. Starting on the Gamecube, I can go through and fall in love with the series all over again only to finish Resi 4 and cry the entire way through 5 and remind myself why I never bought 6.
Well Jess, this holiday I'm playing none of the above. Instead I've immersed myself in older adventures such as Neverwinter Nights 2 and Drakensang: The Dark Eye. I might give Path of Exile a go, though.
currently hunting for skyrim legendary edition for the holidays. i heard it's a good game. are the dlc's on-disc already?
I am revisiting FF13, I know what am I thinking?
I am really bad at it apparently and am getting destroyed in battles after Vanille's Eidolon and I am thinking I am going to have to grind a little. I am going to try and platinum it, the treasure hunter trophy maybe time consuming. Also have been playing Demon's Souls which is amazing so far (lvl 55)
after neigh on 300 hours of skyrim i think I'm ready to start the main quest and polish that off! then onto DARK SOULS.....
@bigruss51 I poured 500 hours into three play throughs of that one. There are definitely some weak spots in it but the battle system is great!
@resorberI was actually thinking, "That's nice eye shadow, not too shabby." Though I am still unsure if it fits her eyes by color, her eye shape in general seems to work with it well.
@resorberYou could have said "Jess you look better without visible makeup" but chose to be crass about it. This kind of behavior is why the internet is such a mixed bag and online gaming is intolerable.
@friend_praful Put caqs into the console. Poof! You solve every quest!
@profileap600 i see what you did there
had the age of empires II but could not get it to work with windows 8, bought the pack on steam for 13 euros which included Age of empires II+conquerors+the new expansion and the full Age of empires III. Nostalgia, here i come :p
@conquerorsaint you should have hunted some time ago. They had it on steam for 10 euros or something like that. Quite nice, but still have to download it.. damn steam sales got me a few extra games, enjoying Farcry 3 atm.
@conquerorsaintYou heard right :) and yes the DLC are on the disc (PC version). But probably the same for consoles.
@redskins26rocs The worst trophy for FF13 is is the one where you need to have every item in the game at least once. It is brutal and may take a while to do it. If you're really going to attempt it, try to do it at the same time you do side mission and get the 5 stars rating.
am on ps3(lol lowly console peasant) though so steam discount stuff doesn't apply to me :D I've had it on the radar since I saw it on shelves but was iffy on whether the dlc stuff was disc already or not
@Coco_pierrot @redskins26rocs Yeah that is the hard one, and yeah now that I beat the game I am doing the missions and trying to get everything along the way. I was quite happy though when I beat the game because for some reason I had 600000+ crystarium for everyone and their stats just got crazy really fast. I have been taking a little break, because Ni No Kuni sounded to awesome to stay away from. As soon as I beat that along with side missions I will be returning and than try to platinum FF13-2
@bigruss51@Zloth2 Just play it "normal" and you'll be fine. If you grind you'll find the people you hire are weaker than some of the critters you face. Make SURE you check the Wikia page out ( http://lastremnant.wikia.com/wiki/The_Last_Remnant_Wiki_-_The_Last_Remnant_Guide ) and my guide on Steam can help, too.
