wow, Gamespot really is putting it's time into keeping titanfall on people's minds this last couple of weeks.

I understand it's the biggest Microsoft title for the year, but why so much hype?

is it really that important?

@Jdzspace because all the metrics show them that any titanfall content they put out gets a massive amount of hits and web traffic, so then the highers ups send word down to the editors and content creators that they have to do more on titanfall, its what happens everytime.

There is also the fact that maybe the people just really like the game themselves and its their job to give you their opinion so they are sharing how excited they are about it.

@Jdzspace Well, the Titans do make a good subject for this show. And it makes sense to talk about it this week than any other.

So why not?

@krishnaV_ @Jdzspace - i don't have anything in particular against it.

just seems odd, i've never seen this level of coverage for a single game on gamespot before. just strikes me as odd.

not like there is much else going on....unless you count the japanese PS4 launch.

but that is only important to a small group.....I don't know. no skin off my nose i guess

@noah364 @Jdzspace @krishnaV_ - I guess, like i said. i don't have anthing against it. i'm only saying something because i am starting to feel overexposed.

and since i've been more or less ignoring it for the most part, because I am neither a PC, 360 or microsoft gamer, it literally doesn't effect me at all.

but it seems to be everywhere, so i commented since i've never seen this kind of coverage for a game on here. not even when the next gen systems launched

@Jdzspace @krishnaV_ Well, not much is really coming out right now. The Titanfall beta is up, which is probably the biggest "release" of the past two or so weeks. I mean, really, the only other major titles newly out right now are DK: Tropical Freeze and EDF 2025. And seeing as one is releasing on a failing console, and the other's depth stops at "cheesy, pointless fun," Titanfall seems like the natural option to attract readers.

@Unraed Sadly, its always the dying animals that get the pity over the dying people.

The SPCA puts a kitten on TV with sad music and rakes in the mula.

Save the Children puts on a starving child in Africa to sad music, and people just go "eww."

@noah364 @Unraed Because there are too many people so it doesn't really matter if some die. Or if thousands die. Or millions. It makes no difference. On the other hand an elephant, rhino, whale or tiger dying is much more unfortunate.

5:12. That sounds dangerously close to how Otacon (from MGS) got started in science. Next thing you know it's gonna be stolen by terrorists and be loaded with missiles.

Also... 3:55. Try telling that to Metal Gear RAY. XD

OK I'm done.

Always thought mechs were not practical for war. Instead of war it should be a sport. It'd be a good replacement to football.

I was waiting for him to mention the robot that he did at the end. Techniquely speaking that would be a viable titanfal mech in terms of in casing the pilot. Plus if something like that were deployed in like say a war zone it could work as type mobile weapons platform/support/front line unit where it could be utilized. However it reminds me more of Steel Lancer Arena International the old PS2 game.

A bit off topic but also cool is the fact that there is already a working lazer weapon that the US army though not mass produced at the moment and more in the prototype faze. I dont remember the exact name of it but it is basically a giant disc on wheels which can fire a big lazer beam the problem here is the fact that it needs to be focused on it's target for sevral minutes after which it basically destroys anything electrical. So it's not really like the lazer shown in movies in the video they basically showed how it could be used to easily take down planes and tanks in the future if they could get the lazer to be more effective. Since it shoots so fast if I remember correctly it was easy to hit with but having to focus on a target on sevral minutes before it doing anything is to unrealiable in actual combat and they will most likely be targeted and destroyed before doing anything. This kinda makes me think these kind of things from movies and games are not impossible to make.

Also on this episode, while it would be cool and awesome with giants robotsuits or mechsoldiers. I do believe that for now atleast the issue is cost and our technology for a long time working mobile suit of this kind is not possible. Still if in the future a giant mech with the mobility shown in games and movies was possible a single mech unit could most likely alone devastate a whole armored divizion that is being used today on it's own.

@Tobajas Laser weapons would look cool, but they aren't very practical, even if they were more refined. You'd need a ridiculous amount of power to create a laser beam with any real destructive capabilities. It's a lot easier to just fling a small, metal object against your target at high speeds instead.

Am I disappointed by not having giant mechs walking around no the battlefield? No. Unfortunately, there are much cheaper and more terrifying ways for humans to kill each other. Why is man so innovative when it comes to finding new and exciting ways to destroy life?

This episode reminded me of a classic Onion News video in which a military representative was talking about why he thought that Obama's cancellation of the army's gigantic invincible dragon tank project was a poor idea. He declared that it was necessary at times to terrify your enemies with a deafening a roar and destroy them with an all-consuming flame.

So yes, we need Titans. Because...reasons.

im sorry to say but i dont want no cheap ass easy to kills titan, i want a gundam. made from gundanium alloy which can only be created in zero G, powerd by a nuke generator. specifically i would want the all powerful gundam winged 0 from gundam wing with an advanced AI battle system that expands the mind of the user allowing them to not just become smarter but even see what's to come. along with a beam saber, 2 shoulder mounted gatling guns, a super thick gundanium shield and a twin blaster rifle powerful enough to destroy space colonies in one shot. titan, ha you may as well be in a suit made of paper against a gundam.

I'm honestly not that interested personally in military applications of stuff. For me the military is the way the human race settles its "playground" disputes in an adult way, only innocent people get killed in the process, rather than a couple of kids rolling around on the floor.

It may always be necessary to have military and it is sad to think that many of the best advances we've made have come from the military's need to kill people and some of the worst.

Just look at the Haber Process, the German scientist behind it created it when their supply of nitrogen compounds was cut off from places like South America.

Their need for explosives is the reason we can now sustain 7 billion people on the planet by creating fertilisers.

Science should be in my opinion used for the betterment of the human race and the other organisms on the planet, not for destruction of those same organisms whether on purpose or otherwise.

Space travel is fun to think about but honestly we are so far from such a reality it is hard to get worked up over right now. And the same goes for robots really. They are great things yet so limited at the same time.

Personally I think genetic and actual human advancement is much more interesting. Why rely on robots that need a backpack to use when we can cut out the middle man all together? Biological/electronic interfaces might always be a thing but there is no reason we can't better ourselves at a molecular level at the same time.

@Dannystaples14 You covered a few interesting topics in that long comment (and yes, I read the whole thing :) ).

I think that militaries have varying necessities depending on where you go in the world. There is a bunch of study and research into deterrents (like nuclear weapons) in addition to things that may make soldiers safer. Unfortunately, military tech can cause many more problems than it solves when it is used by people for their own gain, like when the US gave Saddam some missiles as a deterrent against the USSR to invade their oil fields. A double-edged sword that was that came back and hit a lot of civilians. But when used properly to defend against people who are thoroughly bent on destroying you for whatever reason (personal hatred, orders, nationalism, racism, etc.), militaries are welcome.

I like the whole concept that science should be used to advance the human race and not destroy it, but to be honest, whenever someone discovers a way to release lots of energy, you will get a group of people who want to use it to power machines for the good of others, and you will also get a group that wants to use it as a bomb.

Unless you figure out how to override human nature and make no one want to kill other people, then we will have militaries for defense and offense and science discoveries will be used for good and evil.

Exciting maybe, but its not cool, the countries that dont have this tech are going to be stupidly exploited by the very few people that run the American military.

People like Dick Cheney, Rumsfeld and bush etc (who uses the military as a business oppurtunity) with this friggin technology is not even something id like to think about.

I kill Deer and other animals and eat them and love it. You all should try it. When you kill an animal, skin it, clean it, cook it over a fire and eat it. You will realize that's how nature intended it to be. Most of you eat meat but you let someone else do your dirty work and the act like your morally superior to a hunter. Do you know what happens to a farm animal before it hits your plate. Man up a do it yourself some time and you will have more respect for your food and the ways of nature.

@PFCMike I agree with you. Hunting is ok as long as you respect nature and use as much of the animal as possible. The video didn't bother me either, but killing an animal just to test a weapon is wrong -even more so if you leave the carcass.

@GLOK1132 @KEDERZ No it doesn't offend me a great deal, but killing an animal just to prove that a new gun works well isn't necessary. I'm not going to get in a heated philosophical debate about humanity's violent nature but I will just say this, when will we reach the point in time when we stop creating new ways to destroy each other and the creatures that peacefully co-exist with us? I'm a realist and I realise that this won't happen anytime soon but come on, i'ts a little bit morbid don't ya think?

@KEDERZ @GLOK1132 If the goal was just to determine the effectiveness of the gun, then the animal provided a thorough demonstration of its ability to track a moving target up until it fired. A stationary target in a controlled environment is effective for basic testing, but a unpredictable moving target (granted, a grazing buck isn't exactly a fleeting target) is important to demonstrate the software's capability of differentiating between the living target and the background.

The thing was design to kill. The test was a bit morbid, yes, but part of the live in-field testing.

It isn't going t be replacing "dumb" rifles anytime soon though.
