House of Horrors - Resident Evil Remake
Jess and Zorine open some doors and make friends with dogs in the fan favourite remake of the survival horror classic, Resident Evil

It's amazing how these graphics still hold up even today. This game was originally released back in 2002--11 years ago. It makes you wonder what the GameCube could have been. By far my favorite survival horror game/RE game.
I wish people would research the old reviews for RE 3 and Code Veronica to see people were getting tired of the formula, there reviews were often mediocre. They had to change Resident Evil or die, so they came up with 4, which changed up the formula. Less scary, but a much better game and still Resdient Evil. I loved the fact they brought back Leon. The effect it had on me back then was that Leon was a young cop caught up in something he didn't belong in and now he's working for the government and has better training.
What de hell happened to Chris? is he now on Steriods? comparing his size then and now -- he's practically a different man
Have either of you ever played Amnesia: The Dark Descent on PC? One of the scariest and most atmospheric games I've ever played!!! (Though I can't even get past the first section!)
I still hate the fact that RE2 and 3 didn't get stellar makeovers like RE1 did. The visual overhaul, the addition of dynamic lighting, the drastically improved voice-overs and sound effects, the tension created by "crimson head" zombies you didn't burn, the new areas and puzzles. RE2 and 3 deserved at the very least the audio/visual upgrades even if they didn't add anything else.
I laughed when she said "Take the Book of Curse? Yeah why not? Let's read it out loud while we're here."
In my opinion this is the best game in the series after Resident Evil 4.
I don't think third-person games really get much better than Resident Evil 4. The tension was undeniable, the atmosphere was precisely engineered, the environments were beautiful but bleak, imperial but diseased, the pacing was impeccable, the controls were flawlessly natural, the items were scarce, the inventory management was quiet genius.
I think for those who say it wasn't a survival horror game, they need to learn that bad controls are not a prerequisite for the survival horror genre.
This game (the remake) is still a gem though, and unlike the original, it'll be a long loooong time before people find it's just so old that they can't be bothered with it, if that happens at all. If people can make a game look that good using pre-rendered backgrounds ELEVEN YEARS ago, then I think the industry is really missing a trick these days. There's a lot of money to be made from low-budget games in this genre in 2013 and beyond.
ok now tell us why you left the live stream in such a hurry ;) I was prepared for another hour of RE.
Out dancing I imagine?
I love when Jess swears, like when she heard the moans from the dungeon style door under the stairs in the main room and was like "What the F?#! was that?" Lol what a cutie!
Nice playtrougth make me get nostalgic an miss the old days if you will continue play retro games i recommend to play alone in the dark the new nightmare for me was a good survivol horror game even with more scare moments that the original RE.
Nice "episode" girls keep it that way i really enjoy watching you girls specially for your comments when you are playing hahaha you really get fun when you play and that is the more important thing
...and some of the old games did feel repetitive and boring at times. I felt like the puzzles were more to increase gameplay length because of limitations of CD sized games that actually good game design. If the engines had been advanced as they are now, they wouldn't have needed as much full motion video and could have made their games longer. They needed two discs for the second game as it was.
@MAttyCB01 if u play with chris u only have 6
@The_Gaming_Baby That would've been quite helpful.
@Kryptonbornsonhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_Code:_Veronica#Reception it is the most underrated re game imo.
@pozium Whatever it was that happened, I'd that wager Leon went through the same thing!
@MAXAM999 That was an awesome game and yes they should play it on the show :D
@robertcain Yep! Both of us have played parts of it but not all the way through. It is indeed terrifying. We're going to play A Machine For Pigs when it comes out.
@OHGFawx Capcom as it is now would transform RE2 in QTE filled action game.
@OHGFawx yeah that sucked but who knows maybe re2 will get a remake, but considering what is capcom doing now,i kinda dont want them to remake it.
@naryanrobinson A lot of people say RE4 is their favourite, and I can see why! I gotta say though, the REmake is my personal pick. I couldn't believe how good the game still looked whilst I was playing it. Capcom did a great job with this game.
@Saketume Our stream times have been reduced to an hour :(
@KopyKat000 Well what the fuck was it!?!?
@snova9308 We'll do that for next time!
@Kryptonbornson yes thats very true they even said the pre-rendered backgrounds were more like a disc space limitation, I remember Final Fantasy 7 and 8 used the same pre rendered backgrounds and came on several discs or the X files playstation game had a ton of them xD Still people put thoughts and great concepts into the games in 1990, today everything feels almost generic, the last good survival horror that captures a great tense atmosphere is Amnesia, even Dead Space 3 jumped on the run and gun bandwagon :[
@Gamez09 It has been recommended a LOT I'll check it out today!
@AleksBo Most of the games since 3 have been "underrated." 5 got fair reviews, but it's perhaps the only Resident Evil game I wasn't in love with. I never owned a PS2 oddly, so I wonder how good the Outbreak series was? That actually seems like a good direction for Resident Evil in the future since people want more survival horror, they could just civilians instead of soldiers.
The original Code Veronica looked like it got good ratings. I remembered as much, it was the re-releases that got low reviews as these games don't stand up well over time and they came out with higher than necessary prices.
@AleksBo @OHGFawx yes I am with you on this one, RE2 being my favorite RE game out of the whole series, REmake comes second. The thing about RE2 is, they somehow managed to nail the atmosphere dead on in that game and it boost a fantastic soundtrack. I remember Mikami said that the theme of RE2 was desperation and they wanted to achieve that feeling by adding a very eerie soundtrack to it and that is the reason why its so loved it brings all elements perfectly together like gameplay, survival horror, action, atmosphere and sound. Man that game needs a much deserved overhaul but I doubt they will do it having in mind that the current gen wants more run and gun RE titles than remakes.
dehell?! So it's always gonna be 1h now? Sucks..
@Printul_Noptii I don't disagree it would be nice to have less generic games, that's a given. And while playing through certain open world games I thought the same thing I thought about Resident Evil 6, the environments are so detailed and pretty, but you don't spend much time in the worlds as they are so big. Even Gears had set pieces you remembered because you're forced to hunker down and have 5-10 minute battles in those areas in addition to dying. RE 6 had alot of areas you never are forced to go through again and again. You don't get to enjoy the level design as much and as a consequence it makes it feel generic even though they are not. I enjoyed the CoD type games when I first play them, but then after a while you miss level design being iconic. The gameplay in RE 6 is loads better than it used to be, but I admit it feels like it misses something from the old games as a result.
I have Amnesia, but honestly haven't got around to playing it. Horror was never really my main thing about Resident Evil. It was the Japanese style B-movie thing they had going on. It was scary which was another thing that made you bond with the game. lol
Wai.. what? Did I miss it?
We've have been having a lot of fun playing Cof. For the HL1 engine it looks great. It does take some know-how and tweaking to get it to work but it's well worth it for a free mod. I personally love it. It's super hard so we modded the config files to have shot guns with tons of ammo in every level or its literally impossible.
Outbreak was basically RE online. So it offered a really interesting experience for the series, playing with other people. Everyone was infected from the start of the game and you had an infection meter to keep track of you infection rate. Being bitten increased you infection rate and taking medicine stopped it temporarily. When it reach 100% you became a zombie and could attack teammates. The main object was to get through the map by solving puzzles and scavenging. Of course the biggest problem with the game was communication, which is why I think it didn't do as well as it should have. An old-school RE game needed communication but mics weren't supported for Outbreak. The only way you could communicate with your teammates was through adlibs. It made the game very frustrating, especially if you were playing with newbies. I think if a game similar to Outbreak was released today with mic support on a DLC business model it would do better. There were only a handful of maps to play in Outbreak and they got old quickly. If there were more maps to purchase and special items to buy it would add gameplay value. In fact I wish Capcom would re-release Outbreak # 1 and 2 for digital download. There's a lot of people who miss playing the game after Capcom took the servers down. But I guess someone would have to rent servers to make the multiplayer work so...
@Kryptonbornson Cant say much about outbreak i never owned a console, played all re games i could get on pc,as for re-releases yea it wasnt enough changed even on the technical side and as for prices hey its capcom, they are gonna milk it as much as possible.
@OHGFawx RE 2 had alot better sales the RE 1. Survival horror wasn't a huge genre even at the time, but Resident Evil 2 sold really well.
@AleksBo@Printul_NoptiiI also started with RE2, it was the whole reason I became such a huge RE fan. At that point I didn't have a memory card for my ps1 (my parents didn't know you needed one when they bought it for me) so I had to beat the game in one sitting since I couldn't save. It took me a while to beat it like this, and talk about TENSION. Now I play all the old RE's like that, one life, no saves. It makes it a lot more fun and realistic.
Just that I have to sacrifice a night to join the live streams. If it's 2h entertainment then it's worth it & 1h is a bit short to do the games justice too.
yeye. More other content sounds good.
@Saketume Yep, or close to it, hopefully this will mean we have time to do more interesting streams and non-live videos for you guys!
@Saketume That's true. I still love alot of AAA games, but a lot of them seem to lack the soul low budget games had. It's like what happened to Matrix Reloaded. Limitations seem to force creativity out of the developers.
Today it's all tech no heart.
I think it's a result of teams being too big and money before vision.
