Nintendo's in the unique position of creating hardware a generation behind on the longest generational run yet with a confusing name that doesn't even differentiate itself as separate console in the mind of the general consumer, not to mention the other oddities and just plain poor decisions putting it at a severe disadvantage; and on the other hand we have Microsoft, who thought nothing about spending countless dollars on market research I'm sure, only to then turn around and go totally against the grain of gamer-culture and threaten beloved staples of their free-willed customers' cherished lifestyles with little to no benefits explained, insults to the military, and a shrug in interviews when asked if there would be Steam-like sales.
Yep. That sounds right. Only one freakin' me out is Sony. They're actually sitting on something quite nice, people just aren't seeing it. Oh well!... back to making that video...
PS 1:10-1:17 *thumbs up
Jess McDonald - The hottest and arguably the most informative of the gamespot crew. also awesome news update. Why don't you do reviews Jess?
Sony continues to "supposedly" keep one-upping the Xbox One but the elephant in the room that no one is talking about is how much Sony isn't telling/showing everyone. How about a video of the actual Playstation 4 in action? PS4 fans just found out that most of that 8GB of memory is actually used just to operate the thing. There's still a ton of questions out there while I'm quite excited about my Xbox One and I actually know what I'm getting!
I would love to buy Nintendo games - but there is no way I'm buying a Nintendo console! It's just not worth it. Not for a couple of games here and there.
@maddog123 no way kevan vanord is way hotter
@uglypinkmoose they're already going down , no escaping it now. ahahah
@UNCStriker88 The short answer is the PS4 is a lot less complicated than the Xbone
@UNCStriker88 You must have been MIA for E3. XBONE was played on PC and PS4 was played on PS4, lol.
"How about a video of the actual Playstation 4 in action?"
"I'm quite excited about my Xbox One and I actually know what I'm getting!"
Did you miss E3 or something?
No, I'm being serious. You must have missed E3 this year otherwise you would know the following:
- At E3 the PS4 games were shown being played on an actual PS4.
- At E3 the XBO games were shown being played on high-end PC's - NOT XBOne's.
So, technically, you don't know what you are getting because they haven't really shown off what the console is capable of yet.
Not to mention that little Sony conferrence/show thing that is coming up. Pretty sure Sony will want to save a few announcements for that.
@essam24 how does one fail to come out of a box? though curious i am not watching the video... i find the whole thing just a little odd.
@Scorpion1813 couple games here and there? i'd say each nintendo system averages between 30-40 good games. if you've got the money, its nice to not miss out on those gems
@Scorpion1813 maybe just their handhelds... or a steep, steep price drop.
@callsignalpha For me, I can never view the video in my web browser. I always have to "download" it.
@khaan8 I'm 99% sure she's 22.
Mostly because I am her.
@Fiendvinny honestly dude that's not ganna happen trust me
Look, the fact is that I have a PS3 and was a big Sony fan, but online everything is just the future plain and simple, you will have internet in the middle of the desert in a short time. Sony is leading everyone on and unless you read between the lines here then you will be disappointed. The games on Xbox One are better, the infrastructure is better, and the future potential of the console is better. So unless you are one of the six people that have a PS Vita then I would say to go for the future of gaming!
So tell me, how do you even turn on a PS4 and then how long does it take? What has Sony done to improve matchmaking and online? I'll tell you right now that it sucks to try to play any game online with PS3! How fast does the operating system work when downloading and interchanging games? Who is going to use a recording and uploading feature and not play games online? Who cares about reselling games when everything will be digital? How many people aren't always connected to the internet?(maybe %1) Sony keeps trying to sell people on the concepts that no one has thought through.
I think the comment was in relation to the DVR thing. *shrugs*
It doesn't matter how good they are. It only comes down to which ones I'm interested in personally. And personally, I could count the number of Wii AND Wii U games I'm interested in on one hand.
This is why I've bought Sega or Sony consoles over the years - they have WAY more games that I'm interested in over their competitors. This is why I hate exclusives. It means I miss out on a game I would otherwise love, because I'm playing 5 other games that I love.
Without exclusives, Nintendo would sell way more games, and consoles will be judged by the services they offer, rather than on which has the best selection of games.
@UNCStriker88 @r_ruiz6047 "The games are better". That's called an opinion, Not fact. Future potential is better? I assume you are referring to all the BS MS is shoving down your throat on the cloud. The magical cloud that will give XB1 more power. They are really leading the consumers to think it will do way more than it is actually capable of. Research and learn more about it. There are several articles calling MS on the BS.
psn is every bit as good as xbl hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahah fantastic joke hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahah
@UNCStriker88 @Scorpion1813 Ok fanboy, we get it. You like xbox. Yay! PSN is every bit as good as Live. I have never had problems in "matchmaking" ever. Sony has really done an excellent job on PSN and combined with the PS+ program I prefer it any day to Live. Being so blindly biased only makes you miss great games on another console.
You should probably watch the Microsoft E3 conferrence too, despite the fact that all the information is now moot - it's a good indication how anti-gamer MS truly are. The only thing that got them to change their policies was the pre-order figures. Before that they didn't give a damn as to what gamers thought.
Turn on the system? Really? Something like that is important to you? I would assume there are buttons on both console and controller to do that. Not that it's that important that I MUST know before deciding which console to buy.
Online matchmaking? That comes down to the games, not the console. Each game will have it's own system in place, and I would bet it's going to conflict with what MS have in place and cause all sorts of problems. I'm not an online player anyway so such things don't concern me.
Downloading will be done in the background via partitions, so you can be playing a game while it is downloading at the same time. This was announced at E3 - seriously, you should go watch the Sony press conference, it will answer most of your questions.
Recording and uploading, but no online multiplayer? As I explained to someone else further down the comments section, I'm not an online multiplayer type of gamer, but I might like to record my singleplayer/local multiplayer gaming sessions. I'm certainly not the only person who is not a fan of online gaming.
Everythings digital? Says who? Even Microsoft did a 180 on their decision for digital-only because a lot of people still prefer phyisical copies.
Without internet? Well, just this year I was without internet for 3 months, and other than that have had piss-poor internet. My time spent without internet was spent playing my PS3, since I had nothing else better to do. If the console was forced to be connected I would have had nothing to do. Especially not gaming. Plus, who in their right mind would want to be playing singleplayer games on the internet?? I haven't been able to play D3 by myself even with this piss-poor internet I have now. Also, I think you greatless underestimate the amount of gamers without internet - let-alone stable internet.
Anyway, let me ask you a question. Consider for a minute how MS have done a 180 on most of their policies for the XBOne, and that some of these policies have been changed multiple times and some are still not 100% set in stone because MS are being as vague as if looking through frosted glass. So here is the question:
Do you honestly believe that you know where you stand with MS when they have been nothing but vague, changed policies several times, and could easily (with so much as a firmware update) change it back again??
@UNCStriker88 I suppose then that you've actually used an XBO and made sure all those the OS is fast, and that the online platform is as good as the X360, because I havent tryed one yet.
And about the online time and the love-digital hate-retail thing, some of us live in sorry countries where the highest internet download speed is as slow as you can imagine, so we'd really hate if we need 3 days to download every game
PS: I dont play online but I'll really love to share my more badass moments in my single-player games without having to pay PS+
Even so in the case a dev doesnt have the money and Sony or MS supports their product its reasonable they make it exclusive, because without their help the dev would never have sold anything at all and "If you help me I help U" so if they make a great exclusive game it rises the sells for Sony or MS who could help you again in the future is a symbiosis-like thing. But this is the only positive thing I see about exclusives.
I still wish I could play Zelda on PS4 *.* or that Nintendo made a really good console, not whatever Wii U is
Oh, I fully understand why exclusive games exist, and the benefits they provide for the console manufacturers. However, those benefits do not translate to the consumers - the people buying the consoles/games. Nor does it benefit the developers/publishers of the games themselves.
While the games developers may get a bit of money (a bribe) from the manufacturers (MS or Sony) -- or in some cases the games may be fully funded by MS/Sony -- in the end, the developers are missing out on a huge amount of sales, and a lot of gamers are missing out on a great game.
So everyone else suffers while MS and Sony make money off our misfortune. And Nintendo continue to stubbornly do things their own way - like a spoilt brat that won't let you play with their toys unless you go over to their house and pay a "playtime" fee.
@Scorpion1813 @gaming_binge I would love to see Zelda *.* Fire Emblem Metroid and Super Smash in other consoles (that way we'd have a great brawler game no that not that great All Star, and Nintendo could include great Characters from other companies more than guest and stop including wtf characters like the Wii Fit Trainer)
Thing is, exclusives are part of the "services" a console company provide as sad as it is and as much as we hate it, its a market thing.
Conclusion I'm not buying a Nintendo console for 4 or 5 games I LOVE when other companies give me a lot more interesting and captivating games some I also love (MGS, FF, Dragon Age, Dark Souls, Uncharted, ...)
What does the legal age of drinking in America have to do with asking the age of an Australian on a gaming website?
