GS News - Publishers undecided on blocking Xbox One used games
Bethesda, Sega, Capcom, Take-Two won't yet clarify if they will allow secondhand games or charge activate fees for next-gen software.
If the publishers were smart, they would all side with the xbox and not distribute on the PS4. No matter what PS4 does, the XBOX will still succeed and both publishers and developers will have their projects protected. Dont forget, buying and selling used games are far worse than piracy. It has serious damage. Gamers will whine and moan, but if they want a game they will buy it new.
They have heard how much of a storm has been kicked up over this and they having second thoughts i'd say. Developers really want to spend more coin than they are likely to get from used game fee's on advertizing free game demo's etc just to get players to buy their games? We will all buy the great games, but here is the Kicker Dev's, if it's a great game we DON'T Trade it in. We keep it to reply and wait to buy any new DLC etc, so instead of putting out rubbish that we done and dusted in 4-6 hours and have no interest in playing again. Give us the games we can never ever let out of our collection.
You guys really want to spend a whole bunch of coin on TV and Paper adds as well as supplying every demo discs in in-store and in mags just to let us know you got a game coming out, watching your pre-orders dive until they're a good set of reviews in a mag needing a score of 9/10 from reviewers we trust. No I for one would buy say Killzone if it had no drm compared with say destiny that did, not saying they have but DRM would be a choice for my purchases. Microsoft has for me killed the xbox one, you really want to annoy the hell out of your buyers as well.
Heres to the FTP and the indie chaps now it's their time to shine, leaving the greedy ones to rot.
I definitely agree with you. For these companies own sakes, they better not go through with this method of blocking used games.
