Ironically I only have Tomb Raider for Playstation because it was FREE via Playstaion Plus. I would never actually pay to play it. TBH Who really cares?

@lilhurk1985187 I beg your pardon, but I don't think that's the point. For me, the point is that some fans and consumers that were expecting to play a sequel to a game that was released on multiple platforms to begin with will not be able to play on the same platform they played the first one. Is that a good thing for those people? Obviously not. Is that a good thing for consumers in general, really? We're not talking about a new IP that is to be released exclusively on one platform, we're talking about a franchise with a strong past on multiple platforms, and a new game that is a direct sequel to the previous one, which was released on multiple platforms. If it were exclusive as well but on another platform, the problem would still be there, just for a different set of people.

@Cinetyk @lilhurk1985187 Point well taken but the point im trying to make is $ony fans bragging about exclusive after exclusive, even laugh when sony get one of Microsofts games but when MS gets one of yours its the end of the world. $ony buys exclusives all the time but no one cries,When MS does the samde thing, no one on the Sony likes it and claimes they threw money at them to get it but they do the same thing.

@lilhurk1985187 @Cinetyk You're fanboy issues lie with Sony and you're not seeing the full picture because of it.

Sqeenix and Crystal Dynamic just took a shItload of money and turned their back on the core audience (PC and Playstation) who have supported this struggling franchise for years, it wasn't till the reboots that Tomb Raider finally found it's feet again. So what does Sqeenix do...they sell out for a quick buck. I hope they got a lot of money..they'll need it

I don't think we'll be hearing any sales figures on XB1 ever again because the gap appears to be widening and it isn't going to look good being second place.

I really hope that Rise of the Tomb Raider will not be an Xbox exclusive, but I'm really apprehensive. I'm an exclusively PC gamer and if it doesn't come out on PC, I won't be able to play it. What sense does it do to release a sequel for a game that was originality on multiple platforms as an exclusive for just one platform? 2013's Tomb Raider was brilliant, a memorable experience, one of my favourite games of all time, and I'm sure it has lots of fans on PC and Sony consoles as well. What sense does it to to alienate those consumers? And let's not forget past games of that franchise, I'm also a fan of the Tomb Raider series since Tomb Raider 2. I feel betrayed and abandoned. The game and the relationship CD/SE have with the fans/costumers should be more valuable to than trying to maybe sell more Xbox One's... So yeah, I'm quite bothered by this news. I fear for the survival of the franchise. Actually, I'm rather heartbroken. If the game doesn't come out on PC it will be total desolation for me. And even if it comes out for PC eventually, I don't get this choice, I don't feel respected as a costumer. Shameful display!

SquareEnix went for the quick buck, but doomed the franchise in the long run. You basically cut your fanbase to 1/3 of what it could have been. Smaller fanbase means less money for sequels. I doubt MS will pay for more than just this one, especially since it really wont sell consoles.

In reality though, I would bet this is a timed exclusive.

@straightcur It's not Microsoft's problem what happens to future sequels. SE made their bed. I'm very curious to see what sales figures will be like, because they called 6 million sales of TR 2013 a disappointment. I have serious doubts they sell even close to that on only XB. Will they call that a disappointment also?

Not a smart move on Crystal Dynamics Part if this is exclusive to xbox. While I have both they are cannibalizing sales just like Ryse did with xbox one. Not bringing Tomb Raider to both platforms will hurt this franchise. Just my two cents.

'The Next Tomb Raider as an Xbox Exclusive'

I wouldn't know if it's a timed exclusive or permanent for this game.

I do believe Micro$oft had a lot to do with it being an Xbox exclu$ive.

Hopefully, it will just be a timed exclusive.

I do love speaker on the PS4's controller. It adds a little something to the game that you won't get with the Xbox, when used.

So Sony puts a share ability to upload videos to Youtube, but sites like Youtube and Twitch censor and take down game videos. Why isn't this irony being covered?

Will be interesting to see if the new Tomb Raider can meet Square Enix's ambitious sales targets this time around, whilst only on one platform. I can't see it doing much for the franchise, or Microsoft's image for that matter.

Don't see how anyone is fine with exclusives. They're only meant to bait you into buying a piece of hardware. I didn't think of it as a novel idea, but apparently it is... How about MS, Sony and Nintendo just sell their hardware on the merits of the hardware itself and developers just develop games for whatever they feel like working on? If you have to buy up all the software rights to sell a piece of hardware that's being outsold, is your hardware really that good?

@Tuckpoint Deals like this are par for the course in this industry. You are right that this is a reactionary move to being behind the PS4 in sales. Had they been in front or neck and neck, they probably wouldn't have bought TR exclusivity. But it's not all bad. Things just got more competitive. Maybe this will spur Sony on to making some big reactionary moves that will be good for PS4 owners.

I think Microsoft made a good move cause it gives them another great franchise. The sad thing is game developers will never satisfy people there will always be people who complain. If you don't like Xbox fine that's your opinion but there are some who like Xbox and I'm one of them. Those who dislike xbox can thank Microsoft for Saints Row cause that franchise started one the Xbox 360 as an exclusive. And for those wondering I support both Xbox One and PS4.

@dragondestiny Me liking or disliking the Xbox is not the point for me. The point is that I don't own consoles, have played TR 2013 on PC, and if the new one stays exclusive I will not be able to play it. It will have been taken away from me, and from PS console users. Is that beneficial to the consumers in general? We're not talking about a new IP fresh as an Xbox exclusive, we're talking about a sequel/continuation of a game previously available on PC and Sony consoles. Not to mention that a good majority of other games on that franchise, particularly the more recent ones, were also available on PC and Sony consoles. If the new one stays exclusive for Xbox, they have effectively abandoned fans and costumers from other systems. Not cool.

Tomb raider sequel will most probably stay exclusive to xbox1 but that is because square is in bad shape now financially and everyone knows how rich Microsoft is as compared to sony. I see bleak future for square by keeping tomb raider exclusive to xbox. They could've developed a new IP for xbox1 as Insomniac games did by developing sunset overdrive. this will hurt square future sales of other games both on pc and sony consoles.

@rIVAL_sWORD84 Unless TR becomes a permanent Xbox IP like Gears. If TR3 goes back to being multiplat, I agree sales of future games might be compromised, but if MS continues to keep them exclusive, it's all good, financially for SE.

@lostn @rIVAL_sWORD84 yea but i and you will play for sure but tomb raider will not be appealing to many other xbox gamers plus the tomb raider fans date back to 1996 when ppl used windows 95 os. and the fan loyalty has been hurt and hammered by going exclusive. I remember i played when i was a teenager back then. why no PC version ps4 i understand but PC is the root for gaming. fans may bycot many other games coming from square enix and CD

And another thing. Tomb Raider has always been a Play Station game. When the first game came out in the 90's everyone were mostly playing it on the PS (and the Saturn and DOS). To me going to XBox is removing it's roots from the series.

@gaming_pi Well if we're talking about the same company, Square, they already removed their roots with the FF series which started on Nintendo consoles. Haven't seen a numbered game on a Nintendo platform since 6 though.

@gaming_pi I played all Tomb Raiders since 2 (missed the first one back in the day) on PC, so that's a bit debatable. But anyway, I think the point is that if the new one stays Xbox exclusive, people that have played 2013's Tomb Raider on either PC or PS3/PS4 will not be able to play the sequel, the continuation, on those systems. It makes no sense to me, and it saddens me deeply if that will come to be the case.

@suppaphly42 The sales weren't crappy. It was actually the third highest game in the franchises history and one of the best-selling games of 2013. Their exectations were overly-inflated. They spent a buttload on promotion and development to make that game and probably didn't break even. Hell TR outsold most of their other games including FF X!!!. We're getting to the point in time, much like the movie industry, where development costs and promotion are so much that developers can't make money on what was once considered very successful hauls. Remember when 500million dollar box offices used to be incredible hits in the movie industry. Now the fans are literally being blackmailed into watching a movie 4 or 5 times in order to ensure that a film makes more than twice the ridiculous amount that it cost to develop and promote a film for it to be successful and ensure a sequel. Even a few of the Harry Potter films are said to have lost money and those were ridiculously popular. So these days we have to understand that there's a difference between popular and profitable. Those are the two conflicting modern day definitions of successful...
