GS News - Microsoft buys positive Xbox One comments, Dead Rising 3 gets huge 13GB update
Resident Evil 4 HD is coming to PC via Steam, leaked documents reveal that Microsoft have been paying YouTubers for Xbox One praise and just what is Dead Rising 3’s enormous update for?

I hate Microsoft, and I can't forgive their DRM douchebaggery, but I would take their money and endorse Xbone and take their Money. My Yt Games Channel is Godokunodan . The only question is they were banning Xboners who use excessive profanity in their game capture uploads. So there is a conflict of interests there. Do they have hypocrisy, and look the other way from profanity as long as you promote Xbone?
There is absolutely no need for a HD re-release of RE4 but that doesn't change the fact that RE4 is one of the best action/survival horror games ever made. It's one of the best entries in the entire (and convoluted) series and knew to use QTEs sparingly, had great set piece events and generally did almost everything right.
So even though this is a redundant release, I'm still kind of keen
Resident Evil 4 is such a classic. I just wish every resident evil game on PC was on Steam, one of the most popular digital distribution platforms. And pay a deal price while I'm at it XD
I loved the resident evil 4 back on my PS2, & im really happy i will revisit it again with improved graphics. would also love to play Dino Crisis 2 in HD
There are two fundamental ways to control perception:
1) Attack the credibility of anyone whose words conflict with your desired message.
2) Flood your target audience with so much propaganda that dissenting opinion is drowned out and seemingly insignificant.
MS went with #2.

Dead Rising 3's update clearly is adding a giant problem, that the only way to solve is to pay for the DLC.
Companies paying for promotion and not allowing the promoters to disclose their role is deceitful to the intended audience. I know this is just about games, but it's disturbing to see people openly admit not having a problem with this, as you're led to wonder what else are they sheep about?
I don't get how paying Youtubers to put video footage and the console name on their video constitutes paid reviews.
If I made a video about my dog and put some video footage on it of my Xbox One with the hashtag and the console name that would also be valid.
How is that being paid off by Microsoft to give them a glowing review?
All it means is they won't pay someone who just posts troll videos. Like a 30 second video of a guy with a hammer sticking out of the top of his console as the image pans around.
1. Companies pay for reviews, "evaluation fees," "hosting fees," etc. Get over it.
2. Microsoft wasn't even paying for reviews (in this case). It was paying for player-based video coverage.
3. Unless you have submitted a game or news story to Gamespot an been asked for money you have no right to assume that they are being payed for this. Gamespot is paid for advertising, as you should know because of the 30 second ad you probably watched before the video. Being involved in internet marketing myself I know that this is more than enough to fund Gamespot.
I am not sure what the big deal is about. As much as I LOVE my PS4, it is naive to think SONY does not do the same. This is the world of capitalism, and corporate revenue. I mean, as much as I LOVE BF4 (for example) do you all think that those videos on their web page called "Only in Battlefield" are actually unpaid, neutral opinions? Did I watch them SERIOUSLY considering their opinions? Of course NOT. So, why did I watch them ALL before the game came out? So, I can see as much about the game as possible-that's it.
People get off that poor company's ass. They need to make money end of story. We live in a world where health care providers rob their own clientele, Mayors rob city resources, Corrupt Governments rob precious tax dollars, where presidents lie to people's faces, and NOT do exactly what they promised, where EA gets "worst company of the year" 3 times consecutively, and they ship us BF fans a COMPLETELY broken game, etc, etc...
Worst things are happening around the world right now. People are losing their panties cuz a company is promoting advertising for their product? That is full reviews are for. There are plenty of resources out there to research a product out there. Do your research on a product if you're not sure.
Not only does an HD release of a good old game play on your nostalgia to buy it, to me it also seems the publishers are saying:
"We can't make a good game now to save our own lives, but remember that one game that we made that was awesome?"
Well, no thank you. I won't buy your definitive editiions, HD releases, anniversaries etc.
1. Microsoft slapped every fan of their Xbox One player base in the face. How long are they going to stay on being insulted? Are they really just masochists?
2. RE needs to be bought and brought out by a real company. How the hell does Capcom stay afloat?
3. Well never buying an Xbox One so meh.
So Microsoft paid Machinima for advertising? Big deal, they're also paying Gamespot, IGN, etc, etc..
And Machinima have an agreement with their linked YouTube channels telling them not to disparage a product they're running a promotion for?
How did this ever become 'news'??
Regarding the xbox one paying people to advertise, meh. As long as their not bribing game reviews to give their games or consoles good scores I don't see what the problem is.
Resident Evil 4 was awesome, 9 years ago when I played it on my PS2. Last time I tried playing it on my PS3, I didn't get through the first act before getting bored of it. oh well.
If Sony was paying Jess, I highly doubt she'd still live in Aussie land. Besides, she's a woman of taste, she enjoys tacos! Oh yeah, and the 13gb "Update" I mean c'mon...Doesn't Capcom already have a track record for this kinda crap?
GREAT! Thanks Jess, you just threw a can of kerosene on the fire for all the conspiracy theorists out there.. Now Cam is gonna have to make ANOTHER reality check episode about this! tsk tsk
http://www.youtube.com /watch?v=WjObpd5U33U TotalBiscuit talks a bit about this Microsoft thing, and why it's just not ok to do what they did
I guess now we all know not to trust anything from Machinima. You can look elsewhere if you want any sort of balanced opinion. I really hope they see a serious drop off in views & change their ways.
Also, you can likely question anything good about the Xbone you've heard anywhere.
@killjoi I am sheep about the way human beings are being abused and exploited all over the world. The rich stealing from the poor. Alas, I do nothing.
@Dannystaples14if you are told that you only get payed if you say something positive about the console and the game, if you are also told you can't say anything negative, and if on top of that you are told you can't disclose this agreement, that is very close to a payed review. At the very least it's manipulating the market perception regardless of the quality of their product.
@cnx2022The point is when they can secretly pay people to promote something, all reviews become suspect and the consumer has nowhere reliable to turn.
"Someone in the world has done worse" is not a defense, which is why you don't see lawyers implore the jury "sure my client robbed the bank, but Bernie Madoff stole so much more, why are we even here?".
@TwinStripeUK Hi Microsoft rep =) *waves*
You should play Operation Raccoon City, it's my favorite.
@n0xinab0x you're right, she should totally leave behind her excellent wage, free universal healthcare, nice weather, fully-paid sick and holiday leave, and the ability to walk down most city streets without wondering if she's about to get shot.
@Stebsis I am so amazed that there exist people in this world defending their business practices. Like some kind of cultists, they lurk on sides and make the most appalling incoherent illogical arguments trying desperately to rationalize Microsoft decision in bribing players to say something good about them.
I like my XB1. It's fun.
@TigusVidiks Well not if you don't actually say anything. Gameplay videos showing a given game are not negative but they also show the game in a good light because it exposes people to the potential fun they could be having if they got themselves a console. I.e. the exact reason why companies like Microsoft market their stuff in the first place. And as for target audience. I'd imagine they hit a lot more people on youtube videos advertising than they do with TV ads on some random channel at 2 in the morning or something.
Like even if they HAD to make the arrangement public that hashtag is a valid way of doing so. How would you incorporate that sort of information into a gameplay video OR review without it making the video sound shabby?
A 30 second gameplay video at the start or end of someone's video, with the hashtag and the Xbox One logo somewhere within it sounds like it fits those requirements. And for something like that, that could be strapped to any video.
I mean okay the fact that by law they NEED to disclose the fact they are doing what they are doing. If they aren't doing that or they are outside of the law then I understand but from what I've seen of this "scandal" there was nothing really wrong here. Except maybe that EA and Microsoft have been pushing the law a little bit too far.
And to that I say, there are worse crimes going on right now.
If you want the truth on the subject, read the guy's blog:
it seems to come down to two facts: Microsoft paid for advertising, Machinima b*llsed the wording of agreement up. And that's it. MS have now asked Machinima to pull the campaign and make sure it has a disclaimer on it.
Also, has anyone actually SEEN a response from the FTC on this, or just ECOsvaldo's opinion on the forum (given his rather anti MS bias from the rest of the posts):
@Diegoctba Troll 100%
I'm sure the Xbone is fun, however the unit & the games that you can play on it probably have some negative aspects as well & if you are going to youtube expecting a balanced opinion, looking to make a purchase decision, then there should be some more honesty.
@SIDEFX1 the noid?
