GS News - Last of Us PS4 Release Date; Future of Gaming is Free-To-Play?
Oculus creator says that virtual reality could replace REAL reality, Last of Us on PS4 gets a release date, and is free-to-play the future of gaming?
by Edmond Tran on
VR will never ever replace TVs ... How am I suposed to watch a great football (soccer) game with my friends, or watch a movie while making out with my girlfriend with that thing strapped on my head!?
1. Yeah I agree on I believe it when I see it. Looks fun however.
2. I had a 360 not a PS3 so looking forward to this. Oh and yes I know the ending but still.
3.I mena who wouldn't like Free 2 Play as a player? But as he stated there is a balance and he never even mentioned the quality of the game. I mean we got DC Universe but have you seen the gfx or played it? Dear god I sub to FF14 and for me it's a MUCH better investment.
4. The 'Occulus' (?) Kinect 3.0 .. Or dare I say another Virtual Boy =)
Tommy, Tommy, Tommy... you foolish little man. To think you have the audacity to make a simple little free2play like Candy Crush and that gives you the right to tell us what the future of gaming is? Shigeru Miyamoto may know what the future of gaming is. Hideo Kojima may know what he future of gaming is.Casey Hudson? Maybe. Hell, maybe Jason Rubin? Peter Molyneux? However, Tommy, you have no right. None at all...
That was a pillar wrapped in green screen. That isn't Jess either! It's Green Man from Always Sunny!
Tommy Palm, you absolute dickcheese. Here we have a guy who makes mobile games, whilst crediting micro transactions who think he knows how games should be made...
How are mobile games so, very popular, and how can people possibly thing that swiping a 5 inch screen is the future of gaming? The mind boggles....
Free to play is a horrible model for many types of games. Hearthstone works OK - that's a game I probably wouldn't have bought, but now I've given them a grand total of $2.99. Well done Blizzard, you have almost three dollars of my money... maybe more when they bring out the quests.
For most single player RPGs for example, free to play would ruin the progression model, encourage ridiculous grinding & mean that many people won't play more than a few hours of the game.
FTP mobile games can live in their own little world & reap their success on scamming a few whales out of their cash, but 'real' games will continue on a different model, thanks.
That King "guru" has no idea what video games are. Too many candies are bad for health. Even kids know that (and those who don't will learn soon from experience...)
VR is picking up pace in the recent years. And I do see it expanding from here. But to evolve to a point where we cannot differentiate between reality and virtual reality.. Now that has a long way to go.
As far as diminishing human interactions go, we don't need VR for that. Current gen tech is good for it. Always has been.
not all games need to go F2P. shooters should not be one of them. Having the ability to purchase better weapons instead of earning them is not a good idea. Sure, you can add a time slot as to how long that weapon can be in ur inventory but I also don't want to grind daily to make up for the in game creds lost
Why do all games have to be one way? can't see gamers taking that. That dumb looking scuba mask thingy that puts an electrically lit up digital screen right next to your eyeballs could be fun for some people, I guess, but will we all have to do it? (c.c. is not a video game)
lol @ the beginning
Did u change your desk location or the tree in the background just grew enough to cover the entire view?
The fact that the only Candy Crush fans I know are old high school classmates of mine who are FB addicts poisons the well for me. (Actually what that has to do with the question, I'm not sure, sorry.)
I know it's immature, but I can't take the dev from King seriously (he's a "guru"?) and it's biasing my take on his opinion and the story in general.
Who knows? I'd bet that if most MMOs transitioned to this (looking @ you ESO), made the initial "game" free and profited off of the monthly charges it could work.
The overall reaction to Luckey's comments amuses me. He was reiterating a long held goal/dream of many VR folks from over the years. I first read comments similar to his when I started to work with VR back in the '70s. Some forum posters actually sound like "luddites" in dismissing the concepts. Plus you have to throw in the morons who made the requisite (apparently) "he should be killed" posts.
If you couple the VR concepts he mentioned with recent treatises from some physicists that our 3d "reality" may actually be a holographic projection of some form of n-Space (google this, it's fascinating) then things get really strange.
Jess, gotta' love those big brown eyes.
I agree with the free-to-play model, what's wrong with getting a game for free and just pay for the content that you want? It's like using a credit card instead of leaving your house with a big amount of cash in your wallet.
I like more convenience, some people are so narrow minded
@seven7swords he won a get rich scheme though so as long as he made money it's the future... I mean you seen the gfx of that game? Almost PS2 level people it's not that exciting. if the future is retro then I might as well hang up my hat. I didn't go 3D to see the future as 2D
@zillaman101 I want to be there to shovel the dirt over them.
@dani_i89 That's an easy question - dude's got money. Well, he made money, because his game is popular... but yeah, I wholeheartedly agree with you. This guy shouldn't speak for all developers and all gamers. I hate the free-to-play model and avoid it like the plague. :P
@LordCrash88 I think that game is wildly overrated but even I don't agree with you here. Re-releasing when new tech comes along has been an entertainment standard for decades. DVD meant re-buying all our VHS movies, then Blu-Ray (for whoever actually shelled out), etc. For most of the last gen, PSN has had PS1 and PS2 titles, some as HD remakes. TLOU on PS4 doesn't bother me because I'm not compelled to buy it (my PS3 isn't going anywhere).
Said the same thing. Beat it twice already. I'd rather not pay $60 for a re skinned game but a lot of people will...so that is why Sony does it.
@LordCrash88 I love the game, but you are right. Has been released for about a year (less I think) and it is already being re-released. Just a matter of time before the guns are replaced with walkie talkies...
@greasemonkey42 Maybe Jess herself is actually CGI. No one can really be that pretty, right?
@martouf02 That would give a new meaning to "microtransaction".
@scarred_fox The guy has few loose screws in his head, just talking nonsense
@diego_corleone You can like it and still not believe it's "the future of gaming", right? That's what most people are probably reacting to, even if they are letting their emotions get a little carried away.
@diego_corleone if you didn't know you can buy games with credit card too,not just cash
@homelessgamer I like more cash than credit card to use for shopping
@LordCrash88 @youre_a_sheep I guess it's a bit philosophical. If someone who was on X-Box is making the switch this gen, they can pick it up now. The truly hardcore can waste their money buying it again (IMO anyway). The only thing that bugs me is Naughty Dog spending their time on it rather than something new, but it probably isn't taking too much of their resources.
@Kinguard73 @dani_i89@LordCrash88 It was a South Park reference, I've never seen E.T. And FYI, I'm old enough to drive and buy cigarettes. Your judgment is flawed. This HD edition is clearly marketed to give the PS4 an up in the console war, and to take advantage of the many who will blindly throw money at Naughty Dog for this "masterpiece bestowed upon the gaming world". I loved the game just as much as the next guy, but you can't honestly believe that that full game price tag is justified only a year after it's original release? I can see the graphics comparisons now..."yeah it looks better, and if you haven't played it before then this is the version to get...however if you're looking for a reason to shell out $400 for a PS4, and have already played the original, then you're wasting you're money". What do those who have already played it get? A bigger hole in the wallet with 1080p. OMG LIKE WOW.
Had this been Microsoft doing a recent HD upgrade, the comment section would have gone into meltdown with the amount of hate.
A year is way too soon for an enhanced edition for a game that already looks amazing. Just plain greedy wallet-raping practices.
@dani_i89 @LordCrash88 Not saying you don't have a good point. Just saying maybe some of us, like my self, didn't see the game as a "must buy" but after hearing all the praise and now purchasing a PS4 they want to give it a try.
That is my case. I didn't play the PS3 version and now that I have a PS4 I really want to try this game and see if it is as enjoyable as everyone says it is.
@LordCrash88 @dani_i89 Haha that would be nice...though I just understand the justification for charging a small amount...even though you have played the game, you are still getting the HD update, which is worth something...to pay full price for a game which already has fantastic graphics on the PS3 does not seem reasonable. This needed a few more years worth of wait, with a complete overhaul, not just a HD update. I paid $50 for Halo anniversary when it was released, and that came out 10 years after the original. Sony are charging more for a game not even a year old....No-one seems to be complaining because it is Sony. When Halo was released, people were all like "but I have already played it" or "why should I buy it again". Seems it's cool to love Sony and hate on Microsoft.
@JWDonnel I'm not bragging,i was asked,and i replied,nothing more nothing less
@mikz_nyc @homelessgamer Why would anyone take you seriously when your bragging about how much you make a month.....dumba$$
@homelessgamer Yeah sure, why do i have this feeling i shouldn't take you too serious
@homelessgamer Now why would i do such an irresponsible thing
@homelessgamer lmao..now you just made my night, you should definitely go for a comedian, you'll be famous, man i can't stop laughing,no seriously i'm an indie developer nice to meet ya
@homelessgamer lol..you're funny, " i work for somebody who makes something very interesting that you put in your gaming console and play" guess what i do?
@homelessgamer hard times?..lol,oh i see,let me put it in letters : i make thirty thousand of dollars a month after tax
@homelessgamer New York City
@homelessgamer You have to pay for credit card if you didn't know
@homelessgamer Checks that i get from work i cash in the most of them,i keep few in the bank
