Gaming Meme History - Lost In Translation
A WINNER IS YOU! Jess McDonell wraps up some of the best memes that have come out of bad video game localizations.

You are wrong that Metal gear's "I feel asleep" is a TRANSLATION error. It is a typo, the correct line should read "I fell asleep" as it is said when a guard wakes up. Whomever was typing in the English words accidentally wrote feal instead of fell, a typo/brainfart is all. No one noticed it prior to release.
You are right, tnx
All those translation errors are indeed funny, but what's wrong with ''the messiah of Earth"? I mean, apart from the simple fact that it might have no sense whatsoever, is there a clear semantic or grammatical error?
Fail- (intransitive verb)
1. To prove deficient or lacking; perform ineffectively or inadequately:
2. To be unsuccessful:
3. To receive an academic grade below the acceptable minimum.
4. To prove insufficient in quantity or duration; give out:
5. To decline, as in strength or effectiveness:
... I think "Fail" has been around a little longer than video games. Yeah, I know, but I think its popularity is due mostly in part by people using it completely separate from being a gaming meme.
"I am Error" is also referenced in Metal Gear Solid 2, when the GW projection of Campbell starts to malfunction. I think it was also sort of a throwback to "I feel asleep" and "the truck have started to move!" from the NES Metal Gear. Could the malfunctioning Patriots AI posing as Big Boss have been responsible for sending Snake against Big Boss during the Outer Heaven mission of 1989?
...admit it, a few of your minds just got blown.
She seems really bored in this video. I've seen more enthusiasm coming from a Steven Wright performance.
Ya know i really hated the idea of these ads for random crappy sites being under every video now.
But then i saw The 20 Hottest Moms Associated with Sports and i forgave it.
@tempertress After reading all the other depressing news about games and Aliens:CM; I was feeling pretty bummed out. But, this definitely cheered me up. Thanks.
Way too many people say "fail" or use "fail" to often, I'm under the impression that out of all little quips and sayings in history, "fail" lost it's funny factor the quickest.
Why are you milking old gaming memes? Please stop that irritating head tilt. How do these videos justify a paycheck?
You need to do a video all about MMO vernacular. Hopefully you might inject a little criticism into it when people use somewhat pointless and annoying terms such as 'moar' instead of 'more'.
Great Video Jess, thank you.
I remember Suikoden 2 had some typing errors or mistakes in grammar... Not sure.
Fun fact. That camera behind the sign picture was taken at Kuwait Airport by a popular blogger in the country.
@tempertress Do you like Japan and Korea? What did you get to do over there? And what words have you learn over there?
Well one possible reason for all these mistakes could be....
(@ the risk of being swarmed by complaints)
.......here it comes.........:
English SUCKS as a language when it comes to grammar!
When I think back to the dialog in Devil may cry 4, that had some either really bad translation issues or it was just really crap dialog. For example, when nero and dante stop fighting each other as Dante is like 'mmm, nero? nice name' and nero is like, 'yours too'.
Anyway games translated from english to other languages are still pretty f**ked up XD
Eg Halo 4 had the worst translations ever and in Skyrim many items have unpronounceable names that don't make much sense (sweetroll => small candy , Dragonborn => Blood of dragon ...)
@tempertress In real life, do you have trouble talking to people in different languages like French for example?
Oh yeah! Despite the translation touble on Chrono Trigger, I love that game now.
I have played tons of games with grammatical errors. Of course, pretty much all of them were way back in the day. The best one has to be "All your base are belong to us".
Nes Ghostbusters ending had a lot of awful grammar errors, but I'm not sure if they were translation related
