This was an excellent episode of EFMS. How about doing an episode on Geoff Crammond? Would be nice to hear his opinions on modern F1 racing games and find out what he's doing now that Microprose no longer exist.

@LaStOfThE @peteuplink Actually they didn't cover the subject. What that one was was a big advertisement for Codemasters latest mess. Crammond made 4 of the best F1 games ever to appear on PC, and I'd like to hear his opinions on the current state of F1 gaming now that realism and accuracy are no longer the driving force.

Amiga was one of the best consoles (if i can call that) ever and one of most under rated of all time. It was ahead of Nes and more or less the level of mega drive (Genesis) and snes, but with a lot of piracy support :D.

@mruizinho Well let's see

It was sold in toy stores like a console. It connected to a TV like a console. It played games like the best console ever. It turned on and off like a console. No boot times to speak of even if you did have a HDD which most people didn't since it played games and programs right off diskettes when you switched the power on.

Other than that it was a very powerful computer at the time and it still can put a modern day PC to shame in some areas.

Btw it had the same CPU in 1985 as they put in the Mega Drive a few years later (although the MD got two of them). Later Amiga models were fitted with better CPUs and/or expansion boards with new CPUs. The real power of the Amiga was in the custom chip copper and blitter however.

Oh and Here's a kickoff2 video (since I was talking about that earlier on) for a comparison with sensible soccer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3CRm0Ufkl0

There doesn't seem to be any good videos of it on youtube so I'm sorry for the blur.

Those games were from a time when the box was bigger than the kid that bought it. Anyway, I look forward to the episode on the Bitmap Brothers, which I know is coming.

Hare was fun to listen to.

Suggestions...uh...the history of sexual obsession over teenage girls among Japanese game developers? Nah, too honest. Imagery from the Myth of Sisyphus in the Halo series? Too obscure. Mario as archetype for overachieving men of inadequate height. Yeah, that one.

Yeah, we do love war, don't we? War or soccer - tough choice.

I could be talked into a wizard with a rocket launcher pretty easily.

And I loved the Amiga as a gaming machine. Developers seemed to mess around and experiment a lot more then.

Sensible soccer was by far one of the best, most addictive games I played as a kid on my PC... and getting to know the guy who actually made it... haha amazing! For other episodes, how about looking into other companies like Sierra, Micropose, or the guys from the original Syndicate (was it Bullfrog?)

Thanks Danny! This was a piece of the industry that I never knew about. I'm only nineteen, so this was kind of before my time, as it were. It's always refreshing to hear about the early days of the industry.

@thequickshooter Really?.. I'd expect a Sonic fan to appreciate an Amiga driven developer, the Amiga systems brought to life some of the best platformers ever made.

You do enjoy platformers, right?

Sensible soccer ok yeah, but megalomania is really one of the best rts games ever and way ahead of its time. I don't think that many people played it, because it should be near the top of any 'best of amiga' list. Lemon has it at #60 which is just wrong. Good times in 91.

@bdiddytampa @Skrillbak Just trying to highlight the pain of Danny's journeys through gaming. Not trying to be serious or anything. Also, Cannon Fodder is excellent.

As an American, I always wondered why people I met never heard of an Amiga. I think I only met one other person in my life that has played an Amiga. My dad would copy all his games from people he would meet in the army, so I had over 300 Amiga games to play by the age of 3. My favorite game of all time will always be Mega Traveler.

I used to love playing Parallax. I was never quite sure what I was supposed to be doing and never got anywhere mind you. Shoot Em Up Construction Kit was great, if only for being able to design spaceships that looked like pixelated dildos (kids eh)

Nice trip down memory lane Danny. I saw you sneaked in a few frames from Speedball, made me think that a similar segment about the Bitmap Brothers would be cool. Xenon, Xenon2, Speedball 1&2, etc. Thx.

I've done some digging through my game collection and I found my only version of Cannon Fodder. It's for the Atari Jaguar. I do have it on disk but sadly floppies don't age very well. May as well pull out AVP and Tempest 2000. At least I know what I'll be playing tonight.

I remember when these used to be REALLY funny and informative at the same time, back in the day when it was called...I actually can't even remember what this series used to be called now :|

But yeah, this is still one of the better shows on Gamespot, I love seeing new ones, I just wish some humour was injected back into them again :/

@ZachBobBob Thanks for the honest assessment, and I think it's a fair criticism. This one especially was meant to simply tell a story, but I've got some pretty weird stuff planned for the next few which will hopefully make you chuckle a bit more.

@Skrillbak @cousinmerl @dannyodwyer @ZachBobBob We don't really promote Random Encounter on GameSpot. It's more of a Twitch / YouTube project, so it's always awesome when we see it gets bunches on views on GameSpot too. But lets be honest, it's all downhill after Hatoful Boyfriend.... at least until we do the sequel :O

Hmm, how about an episode of Star Trek games? There's been some really good ones, like Armada 1 and 2, Elite Force 1 and 2, Bridge Commander, Starfleet Command 1, 2, 3, etc, that I'd like and play even if I wasn't a Trekkie, because they are really solid games.

A couple of EFMS suggestion (without checking if you already did them):

1. SSI or "Strategic Simulations Inc."

They're legends. So many great titles in their gaming library including a whole bunch of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons games.

2. Might & Magic series. At least 10 games from the 80's till now.

3. Raven Software. Started with my favourite RPG of all time "Black Crypt" on Amiga 500 and continued with titles such as "Heretic", "Hexen", "Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force", "X-Men Legends" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine"
