Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is an amazing game with some unique game play elements and a great story line.

User Rating: 8.3 | Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth PSP
Good: Great music, unique and addicting game play, amazing story line that will keep you playing, complex skill system makes for a in-depth character upgrading, a lot of replay value; the 3 dimensional cut scenes are beautiful when they occur, which unfortunately is very rare.

Bad: Very difficult to get used to; lack of instruction will make it hard to know what to do, luckily once you grasp the game it gets easier; some of the music is obnoxious and annoying; cut scenes are long, and most are poorly animated with 2 dimension.

In Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth you start off as a Valkyrie, you are a god who has the ability to hear those who are near death or dying. You are sent to the human world by a god named Odin, who is the god of all life. Right as the game starts they introduce a time system. It splits the game into eight chapters, with 16-24 periods in each. You have to raise a large enough army by sending warriors to Valhalla before the end of the time limit. Every time you visit a dungeon or city, a period will be lost. It is a confusing system that is unique, but puts a heavy limit on the possible game play hours. When you actually start to play, you are flying in the air on a map. The menu is basically a map that you fly around and select which area you want to enter. When you use your ability to hear the near dead or dying, you will get a objective, it will show a certain city you need to go to, this is the process in which you get missions. Every chapter, if you push start to go into spirit form, you will get a new character. You will go through a cut scene and get a small plot for each person who is near death, and each character has a great story to it, which really adds a lot of appeal to the game. You can also go in spirit form to get dungeon missions. It will show you the name of the area to go to. When you first get into a dungeon, you will notice a distinct difference. It becomes a two dimensional side scroller, in which you travel around a map looking for a boss. The only problem is that its very hard to navigate the dungeons and they give such a lack of instruction you don't know why or what your trying to do. You will eventually learn what to do after a lot of trial and error. in the dungeon monsters will be roaming around. If you walk into them it will go into a battle sequence much like your typical turn based RPG, but its actually a lot different.

To attack all you do is basically use the face buttons. Each character has a button, for instance, bottom is X, middle right is square, middle left is O, and top is triangle. Basically how they appear on the screen is the same as the fact buttons. There is only one kind of attack for each person, it sounds very limited, but its surprisingly fun. You can link up combos to do extra damage. You can use items and magic, but you'll find your using the face buttons a lot more than anything.

As you play you will notice the great music. It blends in mysterious and enticing music as you play and it will change according to each situation you are in. For example, when its a cut scene showing someone who is near death, it will have sad music that is beautiful sounding. Battle sequences have the traditional fast paced music, and dungeons have dark, scary music. Overall, you will definitively notice the great music as you play.

The game doesn't last as long as wanted, it goes for about 25 hours. Its mainly capped because of the time limit, but it gives a generous amount of time for what you want to do. The replay value depends. The game doesn't seem like one you'll come back to, but it wields tons of replay value. Each time you play you'll get a different ending. Thanks to the many alternative endings, you'll be likely to play it over again if you enjoyed it. You can also unlock items every time you beat it. Overall it has a lot of game play hours for the price asked.

Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is a definite buy for any RPG fan. Even if you don't like RPG games, if you want a game with a great story, look no further. Its fairly cheap now that its older, and if theres a used copy, don't hesitate to pick it up, its definitely a great game, and definitely the best RPG for the Psp.
