User Rating: 8 | Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth PSP
This game is seriously fustrating. There is NO freedom compared to other RPGs where you can do what you like whenever you like. The game starts off with a really long introduction before it really begins. This game is divided into 8 full chapters before you get the default ending.
-Difficulty----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Depending on whether you chose Hard,Normal or Easy, the game elements available will vary.In Hard mode, you can potentially get EVERYTHING in the game. However,Normal and Easy mode have their restraints.
-Endings----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are three endings.A,B and C.B is the default ending you will get after all Chapters have been finished.A however,is a special ending of which you have to get the hard way.I will tell you how but not the process. You need to keep your Seal Rating below 37.To get the C ending, you need to drop your Evaluation or Seal Rating to 0 OR skip the entire Chapter 1 by resting.
-Periods-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now,this is the reason why you have limited time in the story.Every time you enter town, your period will reduce by 1.Every time you enter a dungeon,it will reduce by 2.So you need to make sure you CLEAR everything in every dungeon in the first try if you do not want to waste time and allocate your time properly.Using Spiritual Concentration also takes up 2 periods.
-Seal---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Here are some hints on how to keep your Seal low.I will not be direct, however,so that I will not spoil your game.
-A certain ring that shows faith have to be removed before the end of each sequence of events.
-Two of the chapters will hold in stall a sequence of events.A castle infested with darkness,a field of deadly petals,a city long forgotten, recruiting warriors of different identity, recruiting a warrior connected to her past, recruiting a sorceress whom is killed.
Take note that sending characters to Valhalla will cause you to gain Seal Points so try to limit it to one in the later chapters.
-Party--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You recruit characters you meet. You will often see their stories and stuff like that. However, for every chapter you need to send a character or two to Valhalla. If your character fits the description well, your report will be good and Odin would be pleased with you and you will gain more Divine points and receive better items. Some characters cannot be sent.To send a character you need to make sure their Traits are high.(Traits are like their personalities)There are abilities you need to make sure it fits the different requirements needed for each Chapter.Their class also play a significant part.It is only neccessary to send one character each chapter though you can send two. However, there are risks of them dying in the War so make sure you have them well equipped and leveled.
-Magic/Ability---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Magicks can be learnt via books. All mages start off with a certain spell but you can give them books to use to learn new spells you want.Abilities can be for the purpose as stated above in the Party Section. They can also be used to increase stats.Abilities can be used for support or enchancing attacks. There is a limit of four slots of manual abilities you can equip. However, passive abilities do not need to be equipped. Some abilities need to be found in order to learn it.They, too, come in the form of books.
-Transmutation-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You can transform items from one to the other. However, the cycle will not be chained into a tree of some sort. The items that are transmuted goes in a loop. For example, you can transform A into B into C into A again. It will never become Z or Y.Once you obtain a certain item and equip it,you can transmutate more items or turn them into more effective items
-Equipment------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------There are various forms of equipment.Weapon,Helmet,Glove,Armour, Two Accessory Slots and 3 Possesion Slots.Possesion is the least useful in terms of combat but they can be used to send more effective characters to Valhalla.(For example, they can carry tomes with information about Demons)However, there are some Possesions that can be useful in combat.Accessories can boost the Parameter or give you certain passive abilities. As for weapons and helmets and stuff like that,it should be pretty obvious.Note that some Weapons have, for example Darkness/Death etched upon them. This doesn't mean that you will be the one who dies instantly if exposed to darkness. If the enemy is weak to Darkness, you can instantly kill them if you managed to hit them. These weapons are, however, rare. Some equipments are exclusive to certain characters.
-Artifacts----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After boss battles, there are usually treasure chests being left behind.Open them and you will find really powerful items. They can be passive ability items, equipments or even trash. However, for the so called "trash",they have no purpose to be in your bag but they can be converted to a large amount of MP.(Or Divine Points)
-Divine Items----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no Shop but there is a Divine Item function. You create your own items but there is a limitation of points available. There is also a limit to how many items you can make. After each Chapted, depending on how well you done,Odin will give you a variable amount of MP.However, you can also convert items into MP.MP is needed for Divine Items creation and Transmutation.
-Map----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the world map you will be flying.Your a Goddess of Destiny after all.Dungeons will be unlocked over time but all Cities are initially available.
-Combat-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It's rather similar to Final Fantasy.Except that rather than a bunch of commands, you just need to press Triangle,O,X or Square to attack.Depending on who will attack is based off your party arrangement. However, pressing Select will bring up a menu of which you can choose to cast Magick(Only available to mages),Items,Pass turn,Change Weapons or Flee.If you achieve 100 for the Finishing Blow Bar,you can initiate the Finishing Blow.Different characters have different finishing attacks.Only Lenneth have the ability to have a evolving finishing blow. However, there is a certain CP bar that refrains you from using spells or Finishing Strikes before it is emptied.
-Bonus-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------There are several bonus features.Voice Collection,Music Collection,Movie Collection and Seraphic Gate.Seraphic Gate is the last challenge available to the player. If your determined enough, you can clear it several times and unlock secret weapons and items.Voice collection,if you get a 100% for a character, you will get their Artwork. However,do not worry if you cleared the Story Mode and do not have 100% yet.In Seraphic Gate,in a certain chamber, you will fight Bosses as Normal Enemies.
I written up pretty much everything I remember.Simi-nasi for reading this review and good luck in playing this game.
