Unique combat with excellent story-telling!

User Rating: 8.4 | Vagrant Story PS
Vagrant Story is an RPG that includes a unique combat system in which you move around like an RPG but you attack using a menu based system in which you can aim for specific body parts. The graphics are very good for a PS1 game, the polygons and texture is not as washed-up as it is in some other games of it's generation. The cut-scenes are all done with the in-game engine. The spells effects are good and the movement is smooth.

The sound is what you'd expect from this type of game... nothing revolutionary.

The gameplay is great if you enjoy games with depth. The combat is easy to understand but in order to advance in the game you gotta realize that weapons are the key to victory. You character doesn't actually level up in this game.. it's the weapons that gains attributes each time you use them. If you use a certain weapon on a certain enemy it will raise or lower stats of the weapon. You gotta figure out what stats works with whatever enemies you encounter. Same goes for your defensive gear. It's a nice system but it can get annoying since it can make certain parts of the game quite hard unless you have the weapons to move on. You can combine certain weapons and gear to make better ones as well.

This game will last you at least 20 to 30 hrs. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a game deep that offers a good challenge and great story.
