An amazing action,rpg game.
From the same team that created Final Fantasy Tactics, the story of the game focuses on Ashley Riot, an agent for the Valendia Knights was caught in the middle of a brutal fight between 2 forces in the City of Lea Monde. Aftern an encounter with Sydney Lostarot, leader of one of the major forces in the city, Ashley is now face with a life or death situation between the plot of Sydney, more crucial than the current situation that he is now having. Though the story gets a little deeper as you play through, it is really twisted and confusing sometimes but it really gets interesting too.
The gameplay of Vagrant Story is compared to that of Metal Gear Solid. It does have its own action element but remember that this is still an rpg. You can control Ashley as you explore the underground of the city, from checking every room to slaying monsters and getting some key items. When in battle with monsters, Ashley can change battle modes so he can lift up things like boxes or by grabbing on ledges to make the battle smoothly. And the areas look like labyrinths, it will take some really good exploring on this game. Another great element on the game are moves called break arts. Ashley can learn these by gaining experience and by giving some of his life it can be use on enemies that deals great damage. A great technique probably but it can be very wastefull sometimes. You can also learn various types of magic by defeating enemies where they drop pages of a legendary book. These spells can be use both for healing and attacking, making it one of the key elements of the game.
When speaking of the graphics, this game has one of the best graphics. The graphics arent Metal Gear Style, its more a combination of it and Final Fantasy. It looks fantastic and since this is a Playstation game it doesnt get any better than that. The sound of the game is impressive too. Squaresoft games really host the best musics and sound effects and this game has it all. From exploring areas to boss battles, the sound and music really gives thrill to the game.
Vagrant Story is an amazing game. For those rpg fans that havent played this game yet, your missing a really great experience. Though its a short one, this game is one of the finest to hit the Playstation and it will be always remembered as a great game.
