When I saw that there was a Mortal Kombat game available on DS, I took the first opportunity to buy it. Sadly, the game is essentially broken. To put it briefly, unless you are a Mortal Kombat pro, you can't play the game. Even playing on Novice difficulty is impossibly hard after the 3rd fight or so. I've had the game for 6 months now and have never beaten even the easiest difficulty. The whole point of having an easy (novice) difficulty is that it should be EASY. The harder difficulties (which I have tried) are simply ridiculous and you get the impression that the AI is reading your every move, thus making them to all intents and purposes impossible to beat. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for challenge in games, but when the easiest difficulty is infuriatingly hard to beat, I consider that a game breaking fault. When I pick "easy", it's because I'm new to the game and I want to be able to hone my skills. Sadly this game interprets that as "I'm new to the game so p**s all over me."
In that way, this game is broken, completely and utterly.
I gave it a 5 since it is a good MK game in that it includes all the right fighters and plays as you would expect an MK game to play. Sadly the brutal, unforgiving and frankly broken difficulty is a dealbreaker for me. Save the punishment for the hard difficulty, Midway. They apparently don't understand that "Novice" means easy.
If you are an MK god, you will find a good challenge here. If you are new, or even moderate at MK games, you will find this game impossibly difficult and likely regret wasting your money on it.
I wanted to like this game, but the ridiculous difficulty ruined it for me.
