At first UFC is puts the fan right into the ring with outstanding character line-up, outstanding soundtrack and every detail you could ask for about a fighters career in the UFC. However, when you reach the deeper elements of the game its then that the excitement turns into frustration.

The combat system is very complex and requires a deep knowledge of how to move your player in and out of the ground combat and stand-up combat. Submissions are easy to apply but somewhat difficult to understand and the manuels and guides don't help at all.

In the single player: there are literally a dozen menus needed to go through in order to start a single fighter. Everything from his eye color to eye brow style is needed to be chosen before you can get into the ring. Once you are in the ring, the fights actually take up less time than the selections nessasary in order to advance to the next fight, such as choosing what icons to put on your shorts, attending photoshoots, training, sparring, going to camps, etc.

In the multiplayer: you will find a *lot* of lag, even after the patch. This really hurts the experience when half the players you fight will have this problem. If you just happen to win, you still risk the opponent leaving the game and the information on your win won't be registered. This is also done often enough to discourage trying the multiplayer at all.

The learning curve is huge and will require a ton of beatdowns before you can comfortably grasp how to handle yourself in the ring against veterans. When do do reach that level, single player is incredibly easy and multiplayer is incredibly difficult due to the online problems with lag and leavers.

As a whole UFC is exciting and a must play for any UFC fan, but should just be a rental. It is incredibly repetitive and the details make things tedious after the first few hours. The multiplayer needs work, the single player is decent but a lot of time is spent loading and going through menus instead of action. The next next UFC should be awesome if it adresses a lot of these issues, but it leaves the current game "good" at best.
