A game that follows in Diablo's footsteps yet creates its own blend for presentation

User Rating: 8 | Torchlight PC
Torchlight was a game that was beyond my reach, a game that I never heard of until people started talking ALOT about it. So I tested it out, finished it in about 15 hours and here's the review :)

Gameplay
-Action RPG oriented- The gameplay screams "Diablo" from the hud to the random item generator the game features. You run through the ember mines of Torchlight, to the depths of the evil lair of Odrak facing a wide variety of monsters depending on the dungeon
-Combat system- The combat system feels VERY good, this is because through the game you will feel your characters strength. This is because at some points your character is able to crush leagues of opponents, causing earthquakes and various elemental energies that may emanate from your weapons. This is the MAIN appeal of the game for me, killing never felt this good
-Pet system- This was a very well thought variable in Torchlight. In the game you will have a pet that will follow you everywhere you go and fight with you if necessary. But thats not only it, for hardcore looters out there, the pet could also carry items for you and sell them if needed. Furthermore, the player is able to upgrade his/her pet by making it wear amulets ,rings and feeding it fish (consequently turning it to some other monster, with its own strengths and weaknesses, for a duration). The pet can also learn 2 magic abilities from scrolls
-Jobs- The game only shows 3 characters with 3 specialties each, this is a let down for me because there isnt any character customization and not enough variety to go through. One thing to mention about is the fact that your character can also use up to 5 magic abilities obtained from scrolls.
-Items- There are map scrolls in game if the players wish to level up or farm and the game gives you a wide variety of weapons through its random weapon generator.
Graphics:
-WoW like graphics- Torchlight's OGRE engine really resembles Warcraft but with better pixel shader usage and texturing. It isnt graphically astounding but it can be satisfying
-Strong effects- The game really blows off some amazing effects once in a while, especially if your character is all about elemental magic.
Sound
-Not really special- Really, its just mediocre at best, but nothing to whine about
-Bad voice acting- Im not a fan of the voice acting, especially when the journal is read.

Overall, this game was a blast, but once youve finished it and moved on to the next character the experience starts to get boring. But when you play it the first time you will really get addicted for 1 to 2 weeks.
