Very enjoyable action RPG for a great price.

Well last week I was hunting around Steam for something to play and picked up both Torchlight and Fallout 3 to hold me over until Alpha Protocol. Turns out I should have just saved myself $30 bucks and stuck with Torchlight, since Fallout 3 got boring/irritating after about 5 hours.

I haven't played a ton of action RPG's, but out of my limited experience this one is near the top. The action is highly enjoyable, tossing around spells and cleaving monsters to bits is tons of fun. Bosses are also well done in that they are tough, but not impossible. The leveling and skill system is similar to most other action RPGs I have played, with reasonable quantity of skills and abilities (most of which are pretty straight forward), but enough variety to add depth and replayability. The story is fairly interesting, not anything revolutionary, but its good enough to keep everything moving along at a brisk pace, which is what you look for in an action RPG.

As for the loot system, it's spot on, tons of crap items you can vendor for cash, but the genuine upgrades drop reasonably often so you feel like you are being rewarded. In some respects it feels very similar to the quality and quantity of item drops you would get in Borderlands.

I would highly recommend this game if are into any type of RPGs, you really can't beat the amount of game you get for the price ($10-$20 on Steam). Its a refreshing break from what I have been playing lately, and I can definitely see myself playing though on a new character once I finish.
