Whimsy on the PSP

User Rating: 9.3 | Karakuri PSP
Gameplay-Like in most platformers, there is someway to jump or swing, and you have your occasional baddie or boss to contend with, but what makes this platformer uniq is the presence of those cute little tokobots.Tokobots allow you to create combinations to solve certain puzzles, to cross gaps and to defeat certain bosses. These are split two ways.First you have joint combinations that do not use up anything and are used to get across, around or over obstacles. Then you have your kakuri combos which use up certain items you get in the game. These are used on certain sybols found throughout the game and are usually used to solve puzzles or get a newslate, which are new combinations. This all sounds confusing, but when you actually play it, you will find that this is a very fresh step from the usual things you would find in a platformer.

Graphics-The graphics are great but I dont think they fully utilize the power of the PSP.The polygons look gun and the little monsters you face are good looking and a little on the simple side, which isnt much of a bad thing. So overall pretty good graphics.

Sound-I liked the music because I like cheery, whimsical music, but some people might be turned away by its annoyance. The soundeffects are great even though there arent that many. The occasoinal grunt or two from an enemy or some bell or whistle here and there.I think there could have been speech, but I dont think thats important to the game, because the script is pretty good.

Value-If you have been waiting for a great platformer for your PSP, this is the one to get.It has a solid story, excellent gameplay, and awesome bosses. The only thing thats a little bad is that its not that long. But its still a very great little game(its only 30 bucks)
