Fun but gets a little tedious

User Rating: 7 | The Stanley Parable PC

After reading Gamespots review at work I raced home and downloaded Steam (never used Steam before) and purchased the game.

The game is kind of a rollercoaster for me in terms of "now I like it, now I don't".

The first time I found an ending I was suprised and disappointed. That short? I didn't see how many endings there could be. I figured two doors does not leave that many possibilities. Yet, after two hours I realised there were a lot more endings than I had initially anticipated. As well as endings that took a lot longer to reach (which I found more fun because I got to play longer). However, when you've seen most endings and want to get to the ones that are left, it got a little tedious for me.

Yes, Stanley wondered where everybody was, and he took the left door etc. etc. Some endings take a while to reach. You have to go through quite a lot you've already done. That just got annoying to me.

I have to admit; I did snicker here and there and sometimes even laughed out loud. It can be really funny, it just isn't all the time. And when you go through area's you've already been so many times, the voice over jokes get old.

I would have liked there to be more interaction with the environment. Picking something up and moving it or doing something with it creating a different outcome.

As I understood it, the point of the game is to show that videogames are all linear, no matter how much they pretend to be giving you a choice. They do a very good job of showing this. However, it's short (3-4 hours), and once you have seen most/all of the endings, there is no reason to be going back for more.

The Good:

+ Funny voice over that is very well acted

+ Different than anything I've ever played before, in a good way

+ Well made and thought through, gets the point across that it's trying to make

The Bad:

- Going through the same areas you've been many times before, hearing the same jokes, gets a little tedious

- Could do with atleast a little bit more interaction in some areas
