Strange to think this is almost 20 years old, and just as great as it was all those years ago! An absolute masterpiece!

It's strange to think that it's been almost 20 years since the release of this classic point-and-click adventure. With all style-but-no-substance adventures such as Assassin's Creed littering the gaming world of late (don't get me wrong, it's a great game for about half an hour), it's refreshing to go back and remember exactly what it was like when developers couldn't rely on fancy graphics to sell their games.

If you didn't know (and you damn-well should), the game sees you as an aspiring pirate named Guybrush. You have to complete three trials and obtain a ship to become a pirate, then assemble a motley crew to rescue the beautiful maiden from the evil ghost pirate Le Chuck. So far so good... but the game is so much more than the sum of all its parts. Humour is the order of the day, with Guybrush's witty asides and outragiously funny set pieces having you chuckling throughout the narrative, not to mention the frequent post-modern retorts and in-jokes put in by the developers.

I cannot recommend this game highly enough. Anyone not brainwashed by the perceived need for high definition graphics and brain-numbingly cliche narrative should check it out. Developers should play this and realise that the look of the game doesn't, and shouldn't, automatically vault it into greatness.
