LOTRO is one of those games that, especially for Tolkien fans, immerses you in a whole new world of fun, excitement, awe, and all around gaming pleasure. You couldn't have asked for a better fantasy setting for an MMORPG than Tolkien's infamous Middle Earth...full of the races, history, creatures, and cultures that so many of us have already grown to love long before the game was ever thought of. In addition to the beautifully realized game world LOTRO also has some of the best MMO gameplay around. In my opinion LOTRO's classes are the most well balanced, effective, and fun to play classes of any MMO to date. The tanks have no trouble building and maintaining aggro, the DPSers are great at what they do, and the crowd controllers are quite effective. The two main healers, one burst heal one H.O.T., are very capable of keeping a full group alive even in the trickiest of situations. Also...all of the classes compliment each other extremely well and each one has from one skill up to several that can make another class better or help them in some way. They also have a buffing class (Captain) that can greatly enhance the effectiveness of any party. Also...the game actually encourages group play with perks like shared XP and things like the Hunter's group speed boost...that helps you quest faster thus allowing you to level faster.

LOTRO also has a hefty amount of game content...from thousands of quests, several enormous regions, a very deep and quite realistic crafting system, a good number of endgame raids, several factions to build up your reputation with for rewards and crafting recipes, and skirmishes...which are stand alone instance quests scaled to your level that you can do solo or with a group for good XP and rewards. The game also has a great Legendary weapon/item system in which your weapon/item levels up as you play, thus allowing you to rank up the DPS and Legacies(bonuses to your skills and traits). Speaking of traits, LOTRO has a detailed trait system and three separate traitlines for each class giving you the ability to specialize your character and enhance your skills any way you wish. There are also racial traits and virtues that give you bonuses to your damage, defense, and stats as well as Legendary traits that give you access to some of the game's best skills once you unlock them. Compared to other games in this genre, LOTRO has very little grind...and the only grind it has is grinding creatures or finding locations for virtues or performing a skill "X" number of times to receive a class trait to enhance that skill. Not nearly as time consuming as other MMOs and much of it can be accpmplished as you quest.

All in all...LOTRO is, in my opinion of course, the most well rounded and engaging MMOs to date. It's beautiful, immersive, addictive, intriguing, and an absolute blast to play...especially with a friend or two. If you're a Tolkien fan...or a fan of MMO's in general...you owe it to yourself to give LOTRO a try. You'll likely enjoy it for years to come. Have fun, and Happy gaming :)
