Though it shows its age, it's a great story with many great elements

Some things should be said up front about this game. First, it definitely shows its age graphically. The graphics are certainly limited but it doesn't deteriorate from the overall game. Second, the first portions of the game may be a little boring but keep trudging forward. It does get better.

The Longest Journey is definitely one of the latter in a long run of point-and-click adventure styles games in the same vein as the classic Kings Quest and Space Quest series of old. This game takes that concept and matures it quite a bit in a variety of areas with the result being a very fun, and often funny, story that can be quite serious at times.

After around an hour or so of playing I was quite bored with the process. I had played the point-and-click adventure games of yore many years ago and I really felt like I stepped back in time a number of years even though this one is more recent. I kept going, however, and found myself quite interested in the story and where it was actually going. Once you really start getting into the game between the two worlds things really start becoming fun.

This style of game might require a bit of patience for people who are more used to the fast-paced games of today. Sometimes things just get tedious running around and having to wait a bit as the main character travels from one side of the screen to the other. This wasn't really a problem in the "old days" of gaming but these days it seems to take longer to do things than one would hope.

This is certainly a classic and defining game of its style and one certainly fun to play if you're up for it!
