Needs a new review
This game is old now and should be rated according to the time frame that it was released.
The Bad:
The game was way too easy for my taste, but I felt satisfied when I had completed it and done everything possible in the game. There are some spelling errors in the game as there were with a lot of games before voice acting took over. Another problem is the leveling system. There isn't much point for exploring what you can on the map that is provided to you. The extra battles do not reward you with much xp and it is best to not use your dragoon form until you have it maxed at level 5 so that you will reach that level faster. The items are pretty limited in the game as well as the areas you can explore.
The Good:
Great graphics for its time, first time I heard voice in a game by Squaresoft, extremely fun battle system, classic plot with unique ideas
The battle system of this game is what really got me. Instead of just standing there and telling your character to attack, you actually got to affect the damage by performing additions. It was the beginning of involving the player more in the game than just sitting back and watching it happen. It felt as though I was being rewarded for being good at the game.
The story starts you out as an average cliche type of main character with the strange name of "Dart" (such as "Cloud"). However, don't give up on it just yet. This character has been chasing the murderer of his father which is only known as the "Black Devil."
I like the classic feel of a character going down a path and finding a deeper plot involved. It is also nice to see several plots happening at once that all converge into one. The plot starts out a little mediocre with him chasing his father's murderer and saving a girl he grew up with from the clutches of evil, but soon forms into a much thicker plot. It is a greatly underappreciated story.
It is one of the great ones.
