... *Blink Blink* WHAT?

User Rating: 9.5 | The Legend of Dragoon PS
Having played LoD several times over the years, and loved every minute of it, I never bothered checking what the critics had to say about it...until today when I got bored at work. Gamespot...all I have to say is WHAT??? You gave FF VII a 9.5, which I will say it did deserve, VIII got a 9.5 as well. So why did LoD get a 6.4? Were we playing the same game? You knocked it for having a heavily-borrowed storyline and predictability, yet that describes about the last decade and a half worth of RPG's, so shouldn't everything after..oh...FF IV get bashed for having a story borrowed from somewhere? In my opinion, you purposely pulled every flaw you could think of to give this game a terrible score which was wholely undeserved because it wasn't a Final Fantasy title. Sure, the combat got a bit repetetive, but it was also challenging enough to be fun. The limited items and magic really made the battles great, because you had to be careful how you used what you had, instead of just spamming the most powerful spell in your arsenal repeatedly. The additions were, I thought, a nice touch, deciding whether you wanted to continue leveling your new one or go back to a full-powered one for the upcoming battles. Sure, the graphics weren't fantastic, but games are about a lot more than graphics, and that took nothing away from the experience, while the CG's were extremely well done. Plus, this game has one of the best sound-tracks in gaming history. In short, don't listen to the Gamespot review, play this game, and play it often.
