The Last Guy hits First Place.

In all honesty, I am not a huge fan of the games available on PSN. Firstly, they munch away at my precious gigs on my hard drive and secondly, there haven't been that many stand out titles, for me, to sacrifice that space for...until now.

The Last Guy is a devilishy simple idea. You are the last guy left in a city of groaning undead and your soul duty is to save the survivors. Without losing any. Or getting any of them gorged out by zombies. Or you getting gorged out by zombies. It's a bit like Super Rub A Dub but better and with little helpless people instead of cutesy quacking ducklings, and blood hungry lepers instead of wind up sharks.

The idea works extremely well, especially from the top down perspective. The controls are very simple to grasp, as there are only something like three buttons to remember as collecting civilians is as simple as walking past them them and getting them to follow you to the designated Safe Zone. Get the required amount of people in this zone and you win the level. It grows extremely addictive as the beeping boinging music pumps up as you run out of time and trying to suss a way around the zombies, makes for some close and quick decisions.

Graphically it is very basic. It's reminisent of a mobile phone game, or a cell phone game for you yanks. Pixelly and vaugue. But with the digitally bird's eye views of real citys around the world, it makes for something fairly intriguing to look at and feels very retro in a modern kind of way and adds to the charm The Last Guy does have. Think Google Maps with zombies.

For a PSN title, it is definately the first, for me, that has really grabbed my attention. Pixel Junk Eden looked cool but was way to irritating and demanding. Calling All Cars handling poorly and failed to deliver and Super Rub A Dub was fun to watch for about 10 minutes and is still the only mildly decent execution of the Six Axis controller. For a mere five pounds The Last Guy is deinately worth a purchase.

Though it may look extremely out dated, and the people are very tiny and hard to see sometimes, once you get into the right state of mind, The Last Guy is a brilliant puzzler and is without a doubt one of the best titles available on PSN.
