Doesn't ring true.

I was quite disappointed with this game. I tracked it down thinking it would be similar to Spider-man on the GBC. You know, cartoon graphics but with a serious edge to it, good animations and a story where you care what happens next. Unfortunatly Iron Man is lacking in all these aspects. The graphics are ok but a bit bright and childish. The animations, I found, were awful. The just didn't do Iron Man justice at all. His run animation looks more like he's skipping and when he finishes a level he does a happy little victory dance. He's more like Kirby than the Golden Avenger. The story is just plain lame. It begins with Tony Stark discovering that his suit of Iron-Man armour has been stolen. He must put on an older suit and track down whoever stole it and defeat them. There are no sub-plots or twists so the only thing that you are fighting for is to find out the identity of the thief. A pointless excercise since the answer is in the instruction manual. The levels are large and colourful and the enemies are plentiful if a but stupid and repetitive. You fight them with your repulsor rays and nothing else. There is no punch or kick button so all your attacks use up energy apart from a shoulder charge which is only really useful for breaking things and is weak against any ememy. The game tries to spark a bit of interest by hiding collectibles throughout he levels which unlock artwork but the levels are very large and the reward is just not worth wading through countless enemys to find them.

This game is a let down if you are a Marvel Fan. It's an amusing platformer that will keep you entertained for half an hour or so while waiting for the bus but there's nothing that draws you back to play when you could be playing something else.
