A Turtles in Time remake sounded perfect, it turned out to be the total opposite.

This is a rare moment where reviewing what's wrong with a game isn't very hard. I was excited to hear that the classic Turtles in Time game was being re-made. However, it is lacking in quite a few areas.

For starters, this is a remake of the arcade game, not the SNES port that many people remember. That means there are several bosses removed, and the game is much shorter and overall less fun. It's not like it would've been much harder to just do the SNES version either, since this game was basically just a graphical overhaul. That is the biggest disappointment of this game as well. This is just the arcade Turtles in Time with better graphics, online play, leaderboards, and achievements. That sounds like a lot, but online play, leaderboards, achievements, and better graphics are the STANDARDS for a remake these days. But then again so is making the game worth buying again, which wasn't hit on here.

The gameplay is a pretty mindless two button beat 'em up style. It isn't very difficult and the game itself can be beaten very easily. After getting the hang of it again (which took about twenty minutes)I could go through the game without dying and nearly without even being hit. The multiplayer is where it is most fun, but they made a huge problem here. Unlike most beat 'em ups (including the 1989 Turtles game) where you can pass through each other, the turtles can bump each other in this game. This means when the action gets heavy (and it always does with a full four turtles), there will be too much confusion to know what's going on other than a lot of mashing with the attack button. It makes playing this game with friends the equivalent of whacking a pinata while blindfolded. Except the pinata is the size of an elephant, and you're standing right in front of it. Sure, you'll get a lot of achievements, errr...candy, but who really needs all that? I haven't had this little fun in a very long time. This is like a streak-snapper for entertaining video games played.

If you really want a TMNT beat 'em up game, you may want to burrow around and see if you still have that SNES. Because the concept is hardly worth the money these days. I would recommend using 400 points to just buy the 1989 TMNT Arcade game, but that is even shorter than this one, but at least turtles can't bump into each other and it's more challenging. There isn't much to say about Re-Shelled other than it being a quick cash-in remake. This is an abomination to the Summer of Arcade games (all the others this year were great) and Ubisoft should be ashamed. It's too easy, it's too short, it's too much of the same, and it's too late.
