It's got it's flaws, but then again, what game doesn't?

User Rating: 7.3 | Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Warriors SNES
By now you probably know that in the early 1990s, the fighting game was king. The most popular games were undoubtably Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. But through all of the great games that came out then, there were some very under rated games. Tournament fighters is one of them. Despite being made by Konami, this game is very similar to Street Fighter II. The special moves are the same, the animations are very close, and overall this game has the same feeling. There are 3 modes to choose from. Tournament, VS., Story mode. Story mode is just what it says it is. There is some story about the turtles and New York City that I didn't follow, but the bottom line is that you're playing for you character's ending. There are only 4 characters to choose from (the 4 turtles), and they all move similarly, so once you get good with one, you'll be good with all of them. In Tournament mode, ther are about 10 characters to choose from, because you can play as all of the enemies from Tournament mode. This is pretty much the same thing except ther's no real story. Logically, VS. mode is for you to play against a human opponent. The game is really alot of fun, but not the most original. The moves seem to have been copied from Street Fighter, leaving you wondering if you were really just playing the the Ninja Turtles. It also doesn't bring anything new to the world of fighting games, meaning that nothing really stands out about it. Despite it's lack of originality, the game looks beautiful. I'm sure that every colour was used. The backgrounds look great and appropriate, and most are animated. The fighters have an almost 3D look to them, and move flawlessly. The sound is just as great. The bockground is simple, but good rock music, and there are some voice samples that are mostly used as taunts after you win the battle. It's a real shame that Tournament Fighters didn't get a bigger hype when it was released. While there's nothing new or original about it, the gameplay is nothing but solid. It also does a great job of emulating the Street Fighter series. This game might not be for every one, but if you love fighters, or even just Street Fighter, this game is worth picking up.
