Syndicate leaves me cold at almost all levels. And where it will not let me cold, it repels me.

This game emulates the setting of an emotional, deep science fiction world. It sets up story threads that can evolve. However that's all anything is in this game amounts to, suggestions at a better game. The moment you step back, and take the game at what it is, a mindless shooter - the more you will get out of it - at least in singleplayer. Furthermore, if that's what you want out of this experience. You found deus ex slow and ponderous, and you are more of an action junkie. Then this game's singleplayer, is solid enough. It has inventive mechanics and satisfying gameplay.. It's just not as compelling as I had hoped it would be. That could be do to the limited space of the level designs, they don't really lend themselves to conveying feelings of spontaneous, dynamic action. And Breach, a fundamental mechanic, sort of comes off as a button prompt. The game looks great and plays nice, but that takes precedence over depth of play; style over substance. That's not to say the SP is bad, just underwhelming. But there is a saving grace and that is the really fun co-op. I'm not a huge online gamer, but for some reason I took to this instantly. It may be because it doesn't feel cheap or gimmicky; it is a rewarding experience where even someone like me can feel like they're kicking butt. Good, fun game overall, just wish the SP had been a deeper, more compelling experience.
