Ahhhhh... Super Mario RPG... is my second time owning the game, and I'm still not displeased. A solid variety of characters (with two originals), awesome story, excellent gameplay, and wonderful side quests and replay value.

I'll briefly describe the main mechanics that sets it apart from other RPGs:

Battles are not random like FF, instead you have to run into a monster to fight it.

"Timed hits" are similar to those in FF8, except instead of doing more damage, you get a follow up hit. If you time the special moves however, you can get either.

Instead of MP, you get FP, which is shared by everybody.

And, the game has a great feel because the storyline is smooth and chronological. The side games are fun as well.

Best of all, you get great rewards for reaping the side quests.
