If you, like me, missed the NES days in the 80s, you still should not miss out on this amazing classic.

User Rating: 8.5 | Super Mario Bros. NES
Super Mario Bros. came out in 1985 and transformed the population into a generation of gamers. How could it not have? The game was original and revolutionary. Featuring enormous worlds, tight physics, wacky characters, and great graphics (for the time), Super Mario Bros. was one of man's greatest achievements. Unfortunately, I was born in 1995, and didn't begin playing video games until I got my hands on an old GameBoy Advance.

Anyway, if you somehow have never played Super Mario Bros. like me, GET IT NOW. The game is a classic, and it is a total blast. The worlds are greatly designed, and it's good to finally know what the big deal was. I recently purchased New Super Mario Bros. Wii, so I'm conditioned to the newer platformers. Playing the original Super Mario Bros., however, was a tad confusing at first.

The physics system is much different from the newer games. When you run, you will start off going slowly, and then instantly accelerate to a mad sprint. This can be a little frustrating if you're running up to a ledge to jump over it, but suddenly you speed up and shoot into the abyss.

The midair control isn't quite as good as in the newer Marios. While you can control where you drift, it's hard to change direction.

Also, the game has no way to save, so good luck getting to Bowser in one go! However, when you get a Game Over, at the title screen press + and 2 and the same time and you'll resume from your current world's beginning. I'm still struggling with getting past World 8 with only 3 lives.

The music is still catchy, and it makes you wonder how such great melodies could come from such a simple machine.

This recreation is completely faithful to the original. It even include the old games bugs of flashing enemies and the imfamous Minus World!

The graphics are a work of art, considering Nintendo only had 8-bit pixels to work with. Beatiful scenery and goofy enemies will make the journey satisfying.

The challenge is just right. The early worlds are easy and let you rack up points. The later levels, however, are Game Over deathtraps. I had trouble finding 1-Ups, and since you can't go back to previous levels, you are forced to play the same level over and over until you get a Game Over.

This is the best Super Mario Bros. remake so far. I highly recommend getting it, because even after 25 years, it is still a total blast. The worlds are fun and the levels are great. There are plenty are challenges and secrets to make this game worthwhile.
