Super Mario Bros. Cheats For NES

  1. Timer Underflow Glitch

This glitch only works in the castle levels where you fight Bowser at the end - for example, World 1-4, 2-4, 3-4, and so on. It is best to defeat Bowser with Fire Mario or Fire Luigi beforehand, as you must wait out most of the timer to execute this glitch. At the end of the castle levels, there is an axe which you must touch to end the level. If you time your jump correctly (a full jump as the timer goes from 002 to 001 often works) and land on the axe while the timer reads "000", you'll continue as normal to the usual sequence at the end of the castle. However, your timer bonus (50 points per second remaining) will be calculated as if you had 999 seconds, not zero, left on the clock. This allows for an easy 49,950 point boost! Note that this glitch, if executed on levels using a flagpole, will prevent you from earning the bonus in that level.

  2. Negative World

Go to World 1-2. At the pipe that leads to the flag, break two blocks so there's one at the end touching the pipe. Now duck and jump backward toward the brick (don't break it!). You should go through the wall and pipe into a warp zone. Jump down the first pipe you see and you will be in the Negative World (-1)!

    Contributed by: Grant Evans

  3. Level Warp

To warp to Worlds 2, 3,or 4 during World 1-2, go to the end where the 2 platforms are rising, get on the first platform, and use it to jump onto the highest structure in the middle, then jump on the next rising platform, but this time, when it reaches the top, jump onto the TOP of the level. Walk foward and drop down the small jump, and you can now warp to Worlds 2, 3, or 4 by going down the desired tube, and pressing down.

  4. The Fireworks Secret

This is a pretty commonly known secret. If you touch the flagpole of any level with either 1, 3, or 6 seconds left on the ones place of the timer, you will get that amount of fireworks. For example, if you touch the flagpole with 126 seconds left on the time, you will get six fireworks!

  5. Shoot fireballs as small Mario

Go to either 1-4, 2-4,3-4, etc. and get to Bowser. Make sure you are Big Mario and try to jump over Bowser or run under him. Stand near the Axe and Bowser will start to walk towards you. As he gets near you, jump high, and touch Bowser and the Axe at the same time. If you do it correctly, you will hear the sound as if you were to shrink, but you will just flash and stay big. Go to the next stage, and get a Mushroom. (Yes, there will be a Mushroom instead of a Fire Flower.) When you touch the Mushroom, you will shrink. Then get a Fire Flower, and you'll have Fire Power as small Mario. (Note: after you do the Bowser/Axe trick, enemies that touch you will be able to kill you when you are Big Mario. When they touch you while you are small Mario after getting the Mushroom or Fire Flower, you will turn back into Big Mario.)

  6. Level Warp to World 6,7 or 8

To warp to World 6,7 or 8 during World 4-2, go to the place where three blocks are can be seen (where a pipe can also be seen). Jump below the third block where you can reveal a secret block but be careful on jumping below the 1st block because you can't break it thus going to the secret warp world unless you are a small Mario. Then step on to it and break the 2nd and the 3rd block. After you have done this, go down, then jump again below the second block now (it should have been broken now). The position of the two revealed blocks must be a stair from right to left. Anyway, step on to the 2nd block then braek the 1st block and there you can see the vine going up. Climb until you reach the day light again. Get some coins if you wish and you can now see three pipes like in the secret warp Worlds 2,3 and 4. Go down your desired pipe.

    Contributed by: yodi_rr

  7. Warp to World 5

Well this secret is so easy. At the very end place of world 4-2 (where you can see the pipe going to the flag) jump on the long pipe and break the brick above it and go through the end and you can see the pipe going to the World 5.

    Contributed by: yodi_rr

  8. Blooper Dodge

If you just walk along the sea floor, Bloopers will never be able to kill you because they are forced back up just before they hit the floor(or you).

    Contributed by: baconlabs

  9. Access 5-1 from 1-2

To access this warp, you must be Super or Fiery Mario. Go to the pipe at the end of the level and jump on top of it. Jump up and break the block over top of the part of the pipe farthest left. Then, position Mario on the edge of the pipe, with one foot hanging off the edge. Duck, then jump backwards as far right as possible. If done just right, Mario will slide through the pipe and the bricks. Walk over to the warp zone area and enter the middle pipe. This pipe will take you to world 5, level 1. The same area can be acessed from a pipe in the same place in 4-2. However, this is meant to be a warp zone to 5-1, whereas the 1-2 warp to 5-1 is a glitch. After completing the jump trick in level 1-2, you can also go down either of the other two pipes, both of which will take you to Minus World -1.

  10. Continue

If you run out of lives and want to continue then at the game over screen press and hold A then press start at 1 player (or 2 player) and you will start at the beginning of the world at which you died!

    Contributed by: cheeseyhuman2

  11. World Select

After beating the game, if you do not turn off the console, you will return to the title screen. There, you can press the B Button to start as desired in World 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8.

    Contributed by: Anonymous

  12. Unlimited 1-Ups

Get to world 3-1, and become Super Mario. At the end of the level, by the staircase before the end flag, you will see two turtles coming down the stairs. Jumping over the first one and then jumping on the second one should cause it to hit the star and bounce back. From here, jump on it and keep yourself off the ground for unlimited 1-ups.

    Contributed by: Dude Love Fan

  13. Extra jump after collecting a power up in mid-air

This only works with mushrooms and fire flowers. Reveal a power up from under any block which contains one. Now jump onto the power up and release the A button. As Mario is transitioning to the next power up, hold down the A button, and Mario will jump in mid-air!

    Contributed by: TheUltimateM4

  14. Mario Walking Backwards (Any level, Any time)

This allows Mario (or Luigi), to move forward while looking backwards. While playing in any level, press and hold left. (While not letting go of left) press and hold down right. Just keep hold these two buttons and Mario will walk backwards very slowly. To speed him up, jump. If you keep holding the two buttons and press jump he will jump backwards and walk backwards faster. Also if you have gotten a fire flower, you can throw them while he walks backwards. If you throw some they will be a lot faster than normal and they will bounce much further. (You could also challenge yourself by trying to beat the game while going backwards!) ; ) (only one problem. Mario can't go backwards into pipes, so you have to go forwards there.)

    Contributed by: merrdog20

  15. Hidden 1-Ups

There are 10 extra 1-Ups throughout the game, most of which are in invisible blocks. However, they don't activate under normal conditions. To get one, you have to collect all the coins in the third level of the previous world. For example, you'd have to get all the coins in 1-3 to make the 1-Up appear in 2-1. Also, the hidden 1-Ups will activate if you used a warp to reach that world. These are the locations:

1-1: After the fourth pipe, jump slightly to the left and above the green hill in the background.

1-2: Jump on top the block formation that has six coins in a single row, stand on the far right edge, and jump straight up to hit the ceiling.

2-1: Near the beginning of the stage, above the pit with the two Koopa Troopas in it. Normally, there are only three blocks visible. There is an invisible fourth one on the left end of the row. To reach it, there is another invisible block directly beneath it.

3-1: Jump straight up when you're about 3/4 of the way across the first bridge. For a precise position, look at the dark brown dots that make up the bridge. It's above the fifth and sixth dots from the right.

4-1: Look for a single row of four question blocks. It's above the second block from the right.

5-1: Keep going until you reach a wall that's four blocks high, with two breakable blocks off to the side with a gap between them. The block is hidden in that gap. For reference, you'll see a pipe on a platform and a Bullet Bill to the right.

6-1: Go over the large wall of blocks, go left to touch side of the wall, and jump straight up. For reference, you'll see the first pipe in the level on the far right.

7-1: Stand on the far left edge of the pipe directly after the Hammer Bros. and jump straight up.

8-1: Stand between the second and third pipes, about one body length away from the third pipe, and jump straight up.

8-2: Jump high and straight up from the springboard to hit the block directly overhead.

  16. Spawn a vine/beanstalk at the stage start

This only works in 2P mode. The 2nd player (Luigi) must make it to world 5-2, not kill the 2nd hammer brother (guarding the vine/beanstalk), activate the vine, then begin to climb while awaiting to die by a thrown hammer. Luigi must die while on/climbing the vine.

When player 1 (Mario) starts again, a short vine will begin to sprout where he's standing. There is only one practical application for this: during the 2nd quest, where Goombas are turned into Beetles, if a vine/beanstalk sprouts in 1-2, Mario can farm lives by knocking the beetle against the left wall, climb on the vine, and endlessly kick the beetle between the wall and the vine without ever touching the ground.

    Contributed by: ZoqFotPik

  17. Hard mode

Beat the game once and you will unlock the hard mode, in this mode all goombas are replaced by buzzy beetles and the levels are more difficult.

Super Mario Bros. Cheats For Game Boy Advance

  1. Warp to World 5.

At the end of World 4-2, jump onto the top of the screen and keep walking until you drop into a room with a warp pipe. It leads to World 5.

    Contributed by: Megaman1981

  2. World Select

After beating the game, if you do not turn off the console, you will return to the title screen. There, you can press the B Button to start as desired in World 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8.

    Contributed by: KeyBlade999

  3. Warp to World 5-1 (Glitched)

In World 1-2, execute the Minus World glitch as described below. However, rather than enter the leftmost warp pipe, enter the one in the middle of the three that are normally there. This would normally take you to World 3 - however, it will now bring you to World 5.

    Contributed by: KeyBlade999

  4. Minus World

    Go to world 1-2.
At the end of the level, there is a pipe, and some bricks.
You must smash the second to last brick and the third to last brick as seen to the left.
Now you must stand on the edge of the pipe, duck, and face left
Now jump to the right towards the one block that you didn't break, while facing left
You should slide right through the bricks, go into the first pipe when you get to the other side.

You should be warped to the minus world, the level is -1.

    Contributed by: Tfox707

  5. Get fireworks at the end of a level

In order to get fireworks to go off after you beat a level, simply finish the level when the last number in the Time is either a 1, 3, or 6. The number of fireworks you get depends on that number. So finish a level with 106 remaining, and you'll get 6 fireworks to explode. Plus, you get bonus points for each firework that goes off.

    Contributed by: gabbo

  6. Level Warp

During World 1-2, go to the end of the level and get on the rising platforms. Now jump onto the TOP of the level and go right until you reach three pipes. You can now warp to either World 2, 3 or 4.

    Contributed by: Swashbuckler

  7. Level Jump

In world 4-2 you will come across a moving platform. Jump past the platforms until you see a ledge with three blocks. Go just left of the first block and jump, you will reveal a secret block. Go over under the second block and jump (rember to leave the space under the first block empty) and jump under the third block to reveal another hidden block. Jump on top of the blocks and start destroying the blocks until you find a vine growing out one of them. Climb up the vine to reach an area with lots of coins. go right until you find some stairs. jump on top of them and walk rigth. Now you can warp to levels 6, 7, and 8.

  8. Continue Game after a Game Over

If you ever find yourself with a Game Over, and you would like to continue from what world you were on, wait for the 1/2 Player select screen, then hold A and press Start. Now you will start at the first level of the World in which you obtained the Game Over from. For example, if you got the Game Over from 7-3, you will start over again at 7-1!

  9. Shoot Fireballs as ''Small Mario'':

Go to either 1-4, 2-4,3-4, etc. and get to Bowser. Make sure you are Big Mario and try to jump over Bowser or run under him. Stand near the Axe and Bowser will start to walk towards you. As he gets near you, jump high, and touch Bowser and the Axe at the same time. If you do it correctly, you will hear the sound as if you were to shrink, but you will just flash and stay as Big Mario.

  4. Warp Zone to Worlds 2,3, and 4

In World 1-2, proceed to the end and take the up moving platforms and jump on the bricks to your right and run over the end pipe, all the way to the right. You will be in a warp zone where you can go to world 2,3, or 4 by warping down the desired pipe.

    Contributed by: MI4 REAL

  5. Warp Zone to World 5

In World 4-2, proceed to the end and run over and past the end pipe by taking a platform earlier in the level and jumping onto the ceiling. After passing over the pipe to the end of the level, you will find a lone pipe being the warp zone to world 5.

    Contributed by: MI4 REAL

  6. The Minus World

To reach this area, stand on the pipe in World 1-2 that takes you to the flagpole. Break the 2nd and 3rd blocks from the right. Then, face left and jump. Hit the back of your head on the left side of the brick next to the pipe. If you do it right, you should be pulled through the wall. Quickly jump into the left pipe to enter the Minus World. It consists of three levels (going to -3) where you can beat the game.

    Contributed by: MTRodaba2468

  7. Level Select

After completing the game once you can actually choose what level to go to on the title screen. Press B to change the level number the demo is playing on.

  8. Warp to World 6,7,8

To do this you must go to 4-2 and be big. Go straight untill you get to the pit where those horizontal ledges are, jump across and go under the blocks that come after the pit and go under the last block and jump, a coin box will come up, hop on it and distroy the box above you, then get down and go under the second to last box and jump, another coin box will appear, jump on it and distroy the box above you, then distroy the first box while still on the second coin box, a vine will appear and jump on it and go up. Now just run and get the coins that appear and once you get to the end there are three tunnels that lead to world 6,7,and 8

    Contributed by: SMurphy

    Contributed by: KeyBlade999

  10. Warp to World 5 (Glitched)

In World 1-2, execute the Minus World glitch as described above. However, rather than enter the leftmost warp pipe, enter the one in the middle of the three that are normally there. This would normally take you to World 3 - however, it will now bring you to World 5.

Super Mario Bros. Cheats For Arcade Games

  1. Continue

On the arcade (or NES VS. System, to some) release of VS. Super Mario Bros., you can continue after having a game over. When you lose all of your lives, hold the A Button at the title screen, then press Start to start again from the last played world. Level progress is not saved, however: for example, having a game over on World 4-4 and using this trick brings you back to World 4-1.

  3. Warp to Worlds 2, 3, or 4

In World 1-2, you will find some elevators near the end of the underground segment. You can use these to ride onto the blocks making up the roof, then go right and past the warp pipe you're normally supposed to take outside. This will bring you to a warp zone that can bring you to Worlds 2, 3, or 4.

  4. Warp to World 6

In World 4-2, as you head right in the underground segment, you will see seven ? Blocks (2 over 2, with 3 to the side). Past the next gap are some blocks on the roof. You can bounce around near here to reveal some blocks, which you can use to hit the already-revealed bricks to reveal a vine. Climb this vine to go up and into a linear platforming area leading to a warp zone, which takes you to World 6.

  5. Warp to World 5

In World 4-2, near the end of the underground segment, you will have to pass over a pipe with a Piranha Plant in it. Instead, you can use Big/Fire Mario/Luigi to break the blocks above it and go right and along the path to a warp zone. (Alternately, you can use an earlier elevator to get on the roof and get here.) The warp is to World 5.
