Mario has potential, but does not answer to the hype.

User Rating: 8 | Super Mario Bros. NES
Old-school Mario trying to make a comeback on his Wii Virtual Console debut.

Gameplay: Same as ever, and as simple as it gets. Hop on the goombas and avoid other enemies. The platforming is still fun today, and Mario does have a certain lasting appeal.

Graphics: Same 8-bit graphics as ever with some nice colors and animations. Overall, not that good, but what else would be expected from a classic game?

Presentation: No cutscenes, but the world of the Mushroom Kingdom doesn't look half bad.

Sound: The same old Mario music you know and love, with those cute beeps.

My verdict: Super Mario Bros. may be popular and classic, but it certainly doesn't live up to its reputation these days. The fact that there's no save function only makes Mario harder to love, but if you're an age-old fan, you should look into this.
