What is there to say? Seriously! Great graphics, chiptune music, awesome monster design, Bowser's first appearance, sweet multiplayer and just a joy to play! Who needs fancy HD graphics and funky joypads when you have a D-pad? The story is about Peach being kidnapped by Bowser and you must save her. ''No I want a day off!'' Anyway, to save her you must go through each level of each world reaching the flagpole at the end of each stage and then getting to Bowser's castle and whooping his butt. The game is easy when you start out but can get VERY frustrating and you will die A LOT. To help you there are power-ups you can collect just like in every other Mario game. These power-ups are a mushroom, a fire flower and yes, the super star. These are pretty useful at first but become a bit useless (except the star) in the later levels when fighting and avoiding harder enemies. The graphics are colourful and 8-bit so what's not to like? The character models and enemy design look good and there are a lot of enemies so it's not just the same 2 enemies recycled in each level which was a very good thing to the game. The controls are perfect. (These are the controls for the Wii virtual console version) all you do is move with the D-pad and jump and run with the 1 and 2 buttons. It couldn't get any easier. I only found 1 problem and that was the glitches, the a frequent and can mess you up causing you to lose a life but overall this is a true classic and well worth your time and money.
