User Rating: 3.1 | Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors' Dreams GBC
Arcade games made the world go round in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. They still do, actually. I haven't lived very long yet, and I will probably never completely know the faces of classics like Super Metroid or Mortal Kombat. But, I do own a rusty old Game Boy Color, and I do own this game...coincidentally and unfortunately.

I will NOT judge this game based on the lack of 2007's graphics cards and Bungie's great orchestra. On to the review, then:

Game Play ~ Street Fighters Alpha and just about every other game in the Street Fighter universe is about going head to head on a 2-D side-scrolling screen format by first choosing from a selection of unique fighters, and then duking it out with different combos. This game ruins the whole game play style. You might tell me that it's only a port to the GBC, but I'm just gonna tell YOU that it shouldn't have been ported to the GBC. You see, this game is more about the will to continue onwards even if you are overpowered by an opponent....strangely overpowered. You see, the controls are clunky, and there is no tutorial, so combat is rather bland, so there exists an 80/20 percent chance of losing or winning. The game expects you to learn the moves by going into Training Mode, which lets you do whatever you want to an unmoving (or moving but defenseless, depending on options) character from the character select. So there you have it- ONE frustrating thing to deal with. Then comes the difficulty. It's funny, like you can always expect some sort of doom in the second round. The first round of each fight is surprisingly easy. Then, the opponent gets abnormally tougher. I'd rather have very unpredictable opponents. After 4 hours of trying to beat the game with some character, your hands will be sweaty, your fingers will be tearing apart, and you will have cussed your mouth to shreds, screaming out insults to the game and bashing your GBC or GBA. And what do you get? You get the same rewarding speech, sort of praising you for "beating" the game. It's not worth 4 hours of swearing and not giving up until winning. Options, options, options! There are NONE! The game play and number of characters are incredibly limited, and there are just about no unlockables, but of course, there are cheat codes.

Graphics ~ I got nothin'.

Sound ~ Not bad for a port to the GBC.

Overall, you will not get much (if any) replay value out of this, and it is highly disappointing for the Street Fighter fans. But, non-fans will realize sooner or later.
