This game is playable, but it ruins the Star Fox series.

The Star Fox Saga, from the Super Nintendo up to the Gamecube, has been a big hit. Star Fox 64 was a major game of my early childhood. I have played the original Star Fox, which was great considering the Super Nintendo's abilities. Star Fox Adventures was different (a puzzle solving 3rd person adventure), but good fun. Star Fox Assault was a GREAT game; it was Star Fox 64 + infantry-style fights (64 had aircraft, a tank, and a submarine).

Star Fox Command has ruined the series. It has decent gameplay, but the storyline is well..... Complex. You choose where you go, who you play as, and ultimately the ending. That's the main problem. Which ending will be used to further the series? Will there even BE another Star Fox game? It's very confusing.

The gameplay is simple once you understand the controls. Fire your lasers, launch bombs, do flips, and maybe even do a barrel roll (Nintendo needs to trademark that phrase). You move your characters around the map so they intercept enemy ships, which can destroy the Great Fox (a ship that is basically your base; goes boom if enemies touch it). You may need to redo some battles because you misplaced your fighters. Combat initiates in a large square area when a character of yours touches an enemy unit or base. You can't leave the area; it's do or die. You must kill all of the enemies in the area within a time limit. Once you know what all of the enemies do, it can be a rhythmic drill every time you fight. Bosses fight in simple patterns, which you figure out and then exploit the loopholes. It is much less exciting than the former on-the-rails Star Fox games, and is outshined even by Star Fox Adventures (which had some of those on-the-rails parts).

Overall, if you are a fan of Star Fox, you like or hate this game. You may like it because it's Star Fox, or hate it for its storyline.

If you are a casual gamer, this one is a maybe. You probably won't care about the storyline.
