Fast, fun action, lots to collect, and good deal of variety, make this a fine 3-D platformer for PS. I highly recommend.

I usually only play Nintendo games, but when they bought a Playstation 2 to our house (not my idea), I thought: well I guess that now that we have a PS2, I could as well by one of those Spyro games of PS1 to play on our new console, they look pretty fun.
I was surprised positively, this game is better than I thought.

How to begin... Well Spyro is basically a small purple dragon it can obviously burn enemies to death with his fire breath, he can glide with his li'l wings, and run real fast horns first, jump, duh. Well those were the most important moves. Pretty modest set of moves, when compared to Banjo Kazooie & Tooie. There are other playable characters as well, my favourite being Sergeant Byrd. There are many, many levels. About 30, or something. One of the strenghts of game disks is that lots of stuff fits in there, unlike cartrdges. Just look at N64 3-D platformers, they usually have less than 10 levels. I still prefer N64 ones, they are just more fun, and the few levels are very huge and non linear, so those games are still about as long than this, as going through all the linear leves doesn't take as much time. Well, my, that was a little off topic, back to the Spyro. Story starts like this: it's year of dragon, so lots of dragon eggs fall from sky. Dragons party a lot 'cause of that, and everybody goes to sleep far too late, so theyre still asleep in day. While Dragons still sleep, Bianca the rabbit, that works for the evil sorceress, stole all the eggs, and hid them into the forgotten worlds, where the sorceress rules. Spyro is the only one that can rescue them, 'cause he's small enough to fit through the holes that lead to forgotten worlds That's where the story starts, I think. One of the things that are only possible on game disks is the voice acting, which this game uses. In the cutscenes, there are no subtitles, so that's no good if you don't understand spoken English so well, (Like me 'cause English is'nt my mother tongue. I'm very good at written english though.) That's why I dont fully understand what was sorceress's motive and so on.
This game's main collectible is, well, I bet you got it already. Well fine! The Dragon Eggs obviously. Additionally there are gems that you have to collect as well. Greedy bear Moneybags does all kinds of stuff for you if you pay a few (hundred) gems for him. The portals you use to travel to levels are fun. If you look through them, you can see sky, no matter which side you look through them. That's a really intresting and fun effect. It's a lot of fun to roam through levels, collect stuff, and beat bad guys. The levels are not similiar to each other, there is something special about each one. Cloud Spires is focuses heavily to gliding with wings, enchanted towers is oriented to spitting those green balls. There is a nice amont of different gameplay elements, so there is some variety. Each level has got fun little challenges, like skateboarding, or destroying stuff in time limit, and more. The other playable character's parts are fun and very varied. Except, I'm not a big fan of sheila the kangaroo gameplay. It just feels boring and unoriginal. Speaking of unoriginal, the final battle was a disappointment. A total letdown. There is not any kind of epic dialogue with sorceress before battle. Agent nine says "Wooo! Time to kick some sorceress butt." It sounded so funny that I laughed, but still it lacked epicness. The battle was so very unoriginal. Sorcerss just runs around trying to hit you, and randomly launches magic balls. That's about all! She's the great sorceress! Hasn't she got any more different magic abilities than launchin' magic balls we have seen so many times before? Talk about unoriginal.

I recommend this game if you are looking for a 3-D platformer. It's nothing new, but still a very fun and solid game.
