Great for a quick playthrough

User Rating: 7.5 | Spider-Man (Platinum) PS
Spider-man is possibly the best super hero game for the PS2 and implements many cool features such as ability to web sling from building to building, tie up enemies with your web, or kick. Most games super hero games before spider-man didn't offer this much diversity and the game is broken up into levels where you need to make it to the end of the level while fighting off various enemies. There is a good variety of levels ranging from indoors to outdoors and you will encounter the occasional boss. You can also pick certain items up and throw them. You have a good variety of web attacks but they are still pretty limited. All you really can do is punch and kick so your melee is pretty limited and there aren't any cool combos like the PS2 Spider-Man movie games. Still it is a pretty fun game due to its simplicity yet unique abilities as well as the good variety of enemies, bosses, and levels. You can also play a little stealth and climb on walls and ceilings. Along the way you can collect comic books and find hidden secrets. The bosses are very nostalgic for Spider-Man fans and are unique to their abilities which makes them all fun fights.

The graphics are very good and the level design is amazing. They aren't the best of PS but pretty good. The voice acting is also very like Spider-Man and the sound effects are on target.

The replay value is pretty good since you can unlock timed arenas and modes as well as going back to levels to find comics. You can also unlock extra costumes. Besides this the game is pretty linear and can be beaten in well under 5 hours if you are a decent gamer. The storyline is decent though and the unlockable make the game worth playing a second time, but after that it kind of gets repetitive since you only have a limited amount of moves you can execute. It is still a fun Spider-Man game, but it just doesn't have the greatest variety.
