It's Sonic. What more could you ask?
I can't say after over 20 years that it remains the most original concept. In gaming, a blue hedgehog that randomly collects rings is not unique anymore. Now they make movies based on video games. Or the other way around. These games hardly did have a story. But back then that was still enough to get them their own tv show.
The graphics have been brushed up a bit on the Xbox 360, as you would suspect and expect. But they remain to their colorful roots. The sound is the classic ring of gathering what else but 'rings'. The music sounds appropriate. Techno for Techno. Exotic for Exotic.
As it is a game that many gamers have not played, it is worth your time for the money.
