Sonic back on the right track

Yeah I'm a fan of the franchise but as time has gone on it kinda lost some of it's millage, I had to endure one disapointment after another. I think the main problem with the franchise was it was missing the point and was so busy trying to be too different that the franchise didn't know what it was anymore.

It's been a long 15 years since a new sequel to the franchise, but the wait has been worth it because this sequel put Sonic back to who he should be and doing what he should to best. And this game is my third favorate game in the franchise.

Plot is good and simple, just Sonic has to rescue his animal friends and his world Knothole from Dr. Eggman, that is all you need to know. And I love that just straight to the point, one of my problems with the Sonic games over the years has been they've tried way to hard at telling a story, they try to overcomplicate the mythology more than nessasary that it didn't feel right and really interfered with the action. In this game you already know the plot so you just simply press start and get to action.

The graphics in the game are awesome, both 2-D and 3-D just make a beautiful combo. But as usual I love the level design, there are just multiple pathways which means multiple possbilities on not just hidden items but different even faster ways to win the level. Plus the levels are a small homage to the first Sonic game, their the same worlds but the stages are completely different. My favorate world in the game in the Casino zone, I don't know I just love the bright colors but most of all has one of my favorate types of games pinball on the level.

The gameplay is great, Sonic is just that Sonic. There are no extra ablities added on to him which is another problem in the franshise I had because I felt it was cheating and underminded the character. But there is two ability sbut it feels right and is what it's suppose to be a tool. It's the double jump and lock on ablitity, as soon as your enimies are locked on you can jump/double jump attack them, you could even bounce off them to help get from point a to b. The boss battles are creative fun to tangle with.

I don't have many problems with it except two but their minor ones. For one, I felt the difficulty on two parts of the Labrynth level could have been toned down mainly on that door puzzle and that oncoming wall. I did get though those obsticales but it took more practice than desired. Second, the game was short, I wouldn't of minded if there were at least two or three more worlds in the game, but since there will be an episode two I wouldn't fret too much.

So overall, this game is a worthy entry and I hope Episode 2 will maintain speed. Sonic is back on the right track and in fine form.
