User Rating: 6.1 | Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (Reprint) GC
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is essentially 3 games intertwined together. However 2 out of 3 of those games are lackluster. Ironically, the two games that stray too far from the series's roots are the weakest links. You can choose to play as either the babyfaces (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles) or the heels (Eggman, Shadow, Batgirl) For two different gameplay experiences. The Sonic/Shadow missions are old-school Sonic in 3-D. You get from point A to point B really fast, collecting rings like you did in Sonic games of past. Sonic can do a funky dash attack in the air and his trademark spin to make him move really fast. Tails/Robotnik missions involve driving some mech thingy. You attack enemies by gliding a recticle over them to lock on multiple enemies ala Panzer Dragoon. Nothing exciting or challenging. You'll also engage in some uninteresting platform jumping complete with the occasional camera problems. It's overall very lame. One would think that missions involving the awesome Knuckles and that batgirl could be the saving grace. It is not so. You can move fairly quick, you can glide in the air for some long jumps and execute a punching combo. The gist of these missions is that you're thrown in a large area and you have to collect 3 gems that are a complete pain to find. These missions are lame and boring. And the camera is terrible. Between missions, you'll get to bring all you items to...somewhere...to give to your Chao...or something...and do something that involves connecting the GC to the GBA and Sonic Advance...but its not really noteworthy. And the whole connectivity sucks. In the end, its not worth putting up with the Tails/Knuckles missions to play through Sonic's missions, and the game is not worth getting.
